I heard the nominees for the Academy Awards in a few weeks. Here they are:

- Howl's Moving Castle
- Corpse Bride
- Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Wererabbit

Yay. This sounds interesting!

What do you guys think, and which film do you think will win?

hehe. you beat me to it! I just put up a notice on the main page.

Anyone else notice that NONE of the many 3D films that got made last year found their way on that list?

I know, and Jerry Beck is having a good laugh out of that one.

Wow. I rock. *gloats* ^__^

Anyway, I think that's odd. Two-thirds of the films nominated are stop-motion animation, the other one's a Japanese anime, and it's surprising that no fully-computer-animated films are up there . . . .

No Madagascar, Chicken Little, or Robots . . . . odd. And I haven't seen either of them at all! Whoa. I am surprised. Maybe this means that good-old classic animation styles are still kicking the butts of 3D animation . . . until Pixar comes back or Shrek 3 makes it to theaters, that is.

I think I'll put my money on Howl's Moving Castle even though I haven't seen it and I know some people here were disappointed.

I'd go with Howl's Moving Castle, too. If I ever get around to writing a review for it, it probably wouldn't be much different than everyone else's review (good, but not great)...but it's still Miyazaki, and that means quality.

I think "Howl's Moving Castle" will win even though I would like to see "Corpse Bride" as the winner too. An Oscar for "Wallace & Gromit" would be too much. Aardman deserved it for the shorts but not for the feature.

Yea I was definitely in the camp of people who didn't like Howl's Moving Castle... but then again, given those three choices none of them stood out as jaw-droppingly fabulous in my mind.

hehe, me'thinks I've become a tad jaded though... :P

Thank you for posting this btw. It occurred to me after I left for work that I'd forgotten the shorts when I posted my little Oscar announcement that working... a rather glaring oversight on my part.

I'll try to get these up as soon as I can... which'll be... umm...

My predictions:
I think either Howl's Moving Castle or Wallace and Gromit will win.

Surprisingly, I hadn't seen any of the nominees either, but I heard rave reviews from Wallace and Gromit and it seems to probably have the upper hand for the win. But Howl's Moving Castle, the recent masterpiece from the amazing Hayao Miyazaki, has the potential to win as well - especially since Spirited Away won the Oscar a couple of years ago, HMC has big shoes to fill.

I think it could be possible for Corpse Bride to surprise everyone, but not likely.

So I think my prediction is for Wallace and Gromit to win, even though I'm also rooting for Howl's Moving Castle.

This is going to be a tough call!

I didn't love Spirited Away, but I still think it was WAY better than Howl's Moving Castle.

I think I'd like to see Corpse Bride win... but likely because I think Nightmare Before Christmas was robbed of some laurels since there wasn't a Animated Film category at the Oscars back when it was released.

Speaking of which... do you think we should add an 'Awards' section to the profiles?

I know I mention it in the "Of Interest" sometimes if a short film was nominated for an Oscar, but I'm wondering if there's value in having a place where you could get a list of nominees and winners over the years... maybe keep it to only a few awards--like just the Oscars and Annies or something... I know digging through the Awards list on IMDb can be a bit of a chore given all the obscure award organizations they list.

On the other hand, there's the often-quite-valid position that these Award shows are a bit of a sham... whether it's really worth it to put much stock in their opinion...

your thoughts?

Hmm . . . now with the Annie Awards done and W&G swept the show, I think it does up the chances of it taking home the Oscar.

holy crap.

And to answer your question, Athena:
I think that an Awards section would be a nice addition to the movie/TV series/shorts profiles.

And yes, some awards shows are shams. They seal the envelopes way in advance. ^__~

Thank God for the People's Choice Awards . . . but I don't think they have any categories for animated shows and movies though . . . . (I might be wrong, so could someone double-check that?)
