Found a nice little piece of software for the old school animators in the crowd. MonkeyJam (http://www.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.com/monkeyjam/index.html) is a free, (or by donation), digital pencil test system. It allows you to scan your drawings with either a scanner or a webcam, assemble them in an exposure sheet and then export them out to .avi.
Just did a quick test piece and it worked like a charm. :D

Do a Google search on monkeyjam. It will show other links where you can download the software (as well as links to other related sites).

For the Mac users out there:
Check out GifBuilder (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10438). There are a couple of versions; use GifBuilder Carbon for OS X. This is not any kind of feature-length animated movie creator, but just a handy way to put your scanned drawings or other images together in an animated GIF file that you can easily put on the Internet. It's actually the program I used to create my first animations, which I'll put here as examples:
SticSmash.gif (http://www.drawingpile.com/Animations/SticSmash.gif)
Apothis.gif (http://www.drawingpile.com/Animations/Apothis.gif)

Gifbuilder is also how I made my first animated gifs, back in the days when I had no graphics software at all but Clarispaint.
