I'm no expert on the man's work, but a discussion about him couldn't hurt, especially to get this forum rollin'.

I've seen only his feature Alice, which is a mixture of animation and live-action, and the first Collected Shorts DVD, which features mostly all-animated films, and a few live action portions. Those of you familiar at all know that by animation I'm referring to stop-motion, and a very unique brand of it.

I don't know much about the man, his filmography, or his legacy (though he was a major influence on the Brothers Quay), I just know that I've found his worth thus far fascinating. There are probably those who know more about him, and I'd be willing to read your thoughts. If you've never heard of him, or heard of him but haven't given his films a shot, perhaps this will serve as a catalyst for you to discover the wonders that are his films.

Someone brought this movie to a video watching party of mine once... it is SERIOUSLY twisted... at the end of it I felt kind of skeevy--probably not helped by the fact that people kept saying "Said Alice" in the creepiest voice possible.

Ah, I love Svankmajer. I've seen Alice and a few of his short films.

Anyone seen Virile Games, with the meticulously detailed clay footballers mutilating eachother a la Itchy and Scratchy?
