I just watched the premier episode of Dragon Hunters. Somehow I suspect it's airing out of order, but that's another quibble for another day.

It didn't quite grip my imagination from the start the way, say, Avatar did, but I'm expecting good things from this show. It's got its cliches. The skinny brains of the outfit who's also a coward. The muscle-bound lug who's good with a sword but a softie on the inside. And the furry sidekick. But it's a French cartoon, which automatically makes it better than half the crud we show over here. I can't help but shake the feeling that it's another cartoon trying to draw from Asian influences, only not done as well as Avatar. It's not anime-ish(thank god), but one of the main characters looks Chinese, and all the characters seem to automatically know how to do the wuxia wire-fu jumping ala Crouching Tiger. But the show has a great artistic style. There's no longer land like we know it but large pieces of rock that seem to magically float in the air. The "dragons" of the show vary widely in shapes and sizes and can really get under your skin with their menacing growls and the way they move and hunt. It's only the first episode, so it's too early to jump to conclusions. It's a shame it couldn't have been funnier or have possessed a little more depth like Avatar, but I'm keeping my eye on this one.
