I had an idea for Keyframe over the holidays that I wanted to float and get some feedback on...

What do you guys think of adding a database of animation schools on Keyframe? But rather than just a straight geographic search tool of schools, make it so that current students and alumni of those schools could come to the site and write reviews of their experience... give them a star-rating and a little written review like we do with the animation.

I just feel from my experience as a student there are so many schools out there... some are good, and some really are just crappy, over-priced and out to take your money... hehe, not unlike a bad DTV release. I thought maybe if there was a place where students could gather to offer their experience, it might make it easier for prospective students to find the right school.

'Course we'd really need to increase traffic for this to be truly useful... love to hear some ideas in that department too.

I think that's a neat idea. I say go for it. :)
It'd be nice to know what all is out there and how good they are.

After I posted that this morning I thought maybe of splitting the rating... or getting the rating on an average of factors...

ie. you rate the curriculum, the facilities, the instructors then average them out to get the actual school rating... so a school with not-so-great facilities could still be rated highly for instructors and curriculum.

or do you think that's too complicated?

I must say, this is an execellent idea. They are too many "legitimate" art schools out there just waiting to abscond with your money and do nothing more.

Absolutely. Plus it can be SO MUCH money... my two-year program cost me $25,000Cdn... (or about $21,500US for the Americans in the crowd).

And it's really hard to know which school is going to be the best for you when all you have to go on is their marketing package.
