Hello All- another 'Newbie' here--- I have memories of back in the early/mid seventies My Brother and
I would watch foreign animated shorts that would occassionaly air on our local PBS station. I have descriptions of a few of these shorts, so if any of these descriptions ring any bells, please respond!

First short, a man is stranded on a tiny island--you know the type--- just a 'Hill' with one palm tree smack dab in the middle. He spots a woman off in the sea poking her head out of the water, waving at the stranded man with a little Woo-hoo!, the man waves back, she goes under water and then her head pops up again, with another woo-hoo at the man with the man woo-hooing and waving back. this flirtation back and forth goes on for several seconds. the man cannot stand the excitement and waves to the woman to come ashore--When the woman launches out of the water (she's a mermaid) the man sees the rest of her body is at least 3 times the size of the entire island, and the man starts yelling Mama Mia!! as she lands atop of man and island, the whole tiny island sinks under water beneath her weight.......

2nd short--- Is a history of Man and Fire. The short begins with a view of the heavens, errupting violently. As you hear a multitude of voices arguing back and forth, the narration says,"In the Beginning, The Gods were angry...then they created the Earth....." the Earth is all hot and spewing lava, then you hear a 'god' say "Let's cool this place off a bit" Then the narration continues, "Then they invented---Man." The Gods saw man was cold and then they said "Lets give them Fire"....Then the short depicts man's use/abuse of fire all through history to present time focusing on one couple arguing while trying to cook food. Their cat keeps begging one or the other to feed him (yeah, the cat talks) and they continue to argue, ignoring the cat and the food on the stove. The cat notices a mouse near the stove, and somehow sets fire to the kitchen drapes as he chases the mouse. The house catches fire, as the cat comments about having 'Mouse Flambeau', then the 'world' catches fire, and then the Earth is reverted back to its chaotic 'pre-man' state. You once again hear the gods arguing amongst themselves as you hear the voice-over say, "In the end, the Gods were angry again..." Above the fracas of Gods bickering, You hear one God exclaiming, "The next time, we'll give the Fire to the WOMAN!".

I have a couple more, but I'm getting finger cramps from typing, and I don't want to make anyone's eyeballs start to bleed.....:D

I can't name either of these, but the plots sure sound like Brunzo Bozetto.

I remember the Man and Fire one. They showed it to my class in grade school. I'd love to see it again, too.

I thought th final fire was caused by the man sticking a fork in the toaster, though....something I've never dared to do since. :D

Sorry for double-posting, but I found it! :D

I used to have some Masters of Animation programs on VHS, which I eventually donated to the library where I work. I vaguely seemed to remember the fire video being on one--and it is.

It's "Hot Stuff!" by Zlatko Grgic, from Canada. I just profiled it.

i also used to watch pbs in the seventies, I remember the man and fire short. also one with a giant spider chasing a guy in the basement of an old house (pretty scary). Then there was one more I would love to find. I remember the announcer (female) warning the audience it was gruesome. A man was chosen in the town to become a cannibal (he could not contol it) and every time he ate someone he grew... eventually he was 100' tall and then went out to the dessert and died. Then all these meat trucks pull up and process the meat and haul him away.
I am not sure of the exact name of the show but it was some type of international animated film festival show, possibly from yugoslvia or hungary... ring any bells now ???
