... and currently sitting at 79% on rottentomatoes.com

Anyone planning to see it?
I'm going to be getting my dose of dancing penguins in Sunday.

Wait till George Miller makes 'Happy Feet: Beyond Thunderdome"

The whole premise of this film reminds me of an episode of Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers. Where Professor Nimnul uses a bunch of tap-dancing penguins to create icebergs to sink ships. Although I suppose this sort of thing can be traced back to Mary Poppins (and probably earlier).

I've already posted my review, but I thought I'd link in this one (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30704) as well... it's fairly representative of the reviewers that really don't like this movie because it isn't what the trailers advertise it to be... aka, happy-sappy movie about penguins falling in love.

Personally the fact that it *wasn't* that was exactly the reason why I liked it as much as I did... the reviewer from Ain't it Cool news however thinks that the film is an affront to religion--the rejection of orthodoxy in favour of liberal, hippie, eco-whatever... I'm not particularly religious, so I didn't make this connection at all... in Buddhist philosophy the emphasis is on the pursuit of truth, so if something in a book written 1000 years ago is proven to be wrong by modern science, you reject the book... but you don't however reject the concept of Buddhism. So the penguin's great deity isn't disproven by the fact that Mumble goes out and finds out the 'aliens' are over fishing... who is to say the deity didn't guide Mumble on his incredible journey so that he might save her people?

anyways, I'm glad it turned out to be a less flaky movie than the trailers have spun it.

Well I checked, and it seems I beat you. The most recent feature film I gave 4 stars was 'Spirited Away', which was barely in this century.

In the 90's in reverse order I gave 4 to

Toy Story 2
Toy Story
Balto
Pom Poko
Only Yesterday

Now 'Happy Feet' had better be damn good. If I end up seeing a bunch penguins dancing for 60 minutes, there'll be hell to pay.

Personally what I'd like to see most this week is 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' - but it's not released here yet.

well, let's not forget here that you and I don't always completely agree on movies. I did after all give Pom Poko 1 star.

There are dancing penguins... so if you're totally repulsed by what you've seen of that in the trailers, it probably won't get any better when you watch the full movie.

The movie doesn't feature dancing penguins as much as it is does singing penguins. If you aren't in the mood for sitting through a musical, then this movie will be tough to sit through.

The first time I saw the trailer the whole thing just seem a bad kind of mockumentary based on an idea seen on "the March of the Pingüins", but after seeing Athena's review I really changed my mind about the movie... looks interesting and the tap coreography is SO good, too bad it opens until next week in my country (and I probably will see it until next month :( ).

Yeah, and I still think that's mental. I mean, that beats me giving 'Incredibles' 2.5 or whatever.

I haven't seen any trailers. But it's going to take more to encourage me to rent it than "awww... they're so cute" type reviews. I mean, I am trying not to be biased in advance. I thought 'polar express' would be rubbish, and as it turned out it was actually just a bit rubbishy.

Can anybody confirm if the humans in Happy Feet were live footage of real people? I know there's just NO FREAKING WAY we have computer graphics technology that can craft people looking that realistic. They sure as heck looked real to me.

I seem to recall in the credits seeing a mention that they were live action actors.
