View Full Version : Hell - I could have retired.

Retired from what, I'm not sure, but there was a series of 14 DVDs of early public domain Warner cartoons in Australia called 'Cartoon Classics'. Up till last time I checked (I a few months ago) I was paying $2 each for these from EZYDVD. Now apparently they're out of print, and they're going on ebay for up to $30 each - and top bids are from America. WHY DIDN'T I BUY FIVE OF EACH ONE?

I suppose that by about 2014 Warner may have released most of them on their Golden Collection series. I just figured these were almost worthless PD compilations.

Oh, and I'm missing one, and I'm not paying $30 for it.

Anyway, till such time as Warner do release those cartoons, I'll put an ebay link on the profile page. Is it difficult to make it an Australian ebay search, because there are American releases called 'cartoon Classics' which are entirely different.

(some of the volumes, for some reason, are going for much more modest prices, but I haven't bothered to check the content to see if there's any logical reason for it.)

As Warner's goes through their library of shorts I daresay that the other PD DVDs will become more modest in their worth. This must be Warner's intention, to weed out these PD discs by releasing cleaned-up, offical versions of them.

Till then of course I can image the ones that the WB
haven't released yet staying in the realms of silly money.

It's like the people selling used DVD copies of the Little Mermaid over the past few years, because there was no other (read: offical) outlet the cost skyrockets. Now Disney have released a brand new version I can't see the old one selling well (in fact the prices for old copies on Amazon have crashed): at least until Disney recalls it back into their vaults.

Well in the case of that Vol.11 (which I looked at after reading this for reasons that should become obvious) that logic would be that eight of the titles are also on the Golden Collections, including Super Rabbit, which is on Vol.3 (hope you don't mind if I add that to the profile).

Like you said "...till such time" I've had much the same problem with the Tom and Jerry spotlights. Basically I have no idea what's on them and have little interest in finding out the hard way (i.e. buying them).
