From Philip-Pullman.com:

Another film that will be made in due course is ''The Scarecrow and His Servant''. Aardman Animations, who made the great Wallace and Gromit films, will be doing it, though not in plasticine, I think. I`m very fond of the Scarecrow, and I shall look after him; but Aardman have safe hands and I'm not worried.

That's about all the information I can find about it.

I haven't read the book in question, so the news has just given me mental images of a Nick Park version of His Dark Materials.

"Eh up, Gromit! Let's kill God."

(side note: this'll be Aardman's first production to be based on a book.)

I love your 'quote'

Still, Aardman seem to have gone CGI and sold their souls to Dreamworks. I'm not brimming with optimism that their best days are still to come.

Note that Pullman said "not in pasticine". It might not be CGI - it could be Aardman's first forey into 2D. Or it could be another form of stop motion - a movie about a scarecrow would be the perfect excuse for some Svankmajeresque usage of found obj...

...eh, it'll be CGI.

I'll have to check that book out. I'm relieved, though. I originally read the heading to say they were doing 'His Dark Materials.' (shudder) Yeah, Gromit is Wallace's demon. Obviously.
