My TV just blew up. Literally. It went 'bang!' and a smell came from the back of it which was depresingly familiar. The last time I smelled that smell was in 2001 in Caliornia when my Laser Disc player blew up, and the repair bill was going to be twice what the unit cost.
I'd been gradually saving (on a pension) so I could replace this behemoth with a LCD TV when it became nescessary, but I was expecting this creature to last a couple more years, so I'll have to replace it with another 4:3 - which fortunately are half the price they were 5 years ago, though I also suspect they're probably half the quality, too.
In the meantime, if I can even get this thing out of the room (it's about as big as the bomb they dropped on Hiroshima and weighs more than I do) I've got about a 30 year old colour TV in another room which worked when I unplugged it last, but won't take DVDs.... so.... that was my point. I had quite a few things in the queue on DVD. Now I'll be reduced to watching my old VHS movies again (I knew there was a reason I didn't sell them. Oh yeah, that's right - because nobody would buy them. Not even 'Cats Don't Dance', whch isn't on DVD in Australia)
Today started off bad. But don't you just hate it when in a split second something goes 'bang' and you instantly realise your savings plans for the last 6 months have just gone up in smoke?
