I was thinking about this the other day, and even more so today when it struck me that I must be one of the few people who don't like, and never have liked Bugs Bunny, even as a kid. So I thought I'd sort out some sort of order of preference. Mostly they've stayed the same since I was a kid, but a couple have moved. I've noted those. This is a purely instinctive list, with no intellectualising about who is more clever/original or whatever.
Loved
------
The only Warner character who I can honestly say I ever really loved was The Road Runner. This may seem odd, as he probably had the least personality of any of them. He was more a force of nature. Still he had Bugs' invincibility without his smarminess. It wasn't just me, either. I remember the kids next door and I used to play 'Road Runner' with willow branches stuck down the back of our pants to simulate his tail. I used to read the Roadrunner comics, too. He had three sons, and they all spoke in rhyming couplets for some reason. I remember one where he said something like "Perhaps you have not heard / 'Orange' has no rhyming word'), and thinking he was wrong because there was a used car dealer in town called Donald Gorringe.
Nowadays RR has slipped down the scale to 'neutral' or 'like'.
Odd, because as you'll see, I almost always go for the carnivore/underdog.
Nowadays I would say my favourite character is Sylvester, who I always liked, but when RR toppled from his perch, Sylvester was next in line.
