I was thinking about this the other day, and even more so today when it struck me that I must be one of the few people who don't like, and never have liked Bugs Bunny, even as a kid. So I thought I'd sort out some sort of order of preference. Mostly they've stayed the same since I was a kid, but a couple have moved. I've noted those. This is a purely instinctive list, with no intellectualising about who is more clever/original or whatever.

Loved
------

The only Warner character who I can honestly say I ever really loved was The Road Runner. This may seem odd, as he probably had the least personality of any of them. He was more a force of nature. Still he had Bugs' invincibility without his smarminess. It wasn't just me, either. I remember the kids next door and I used to play 'Road Runner' with willow branches stuck down the back of our pants to simulate his tail. I used to read the Roadrunner comics, too. He had three sons, and they all spoke in rhyming couplets for some reason. I remember one where he said something like "Perhaps you have not heard / 'Orange' has no rhyming word'), and thinking he was wrong because there was a used car dealer in town called Donald Gorringe.

Nowadays RR has slipped down the scale to 'neutral' or 'like'.

Odd, because as you'll see, I almost always go for the carnivore/underdog.

Nowadays I would say my favourite character is Sylvester, who I always liked, but when RR toppled from his perch, Sylvester was next in line.

Best to Worse

Love

Sylvester (I think he is Warner's singular most versatile actor, able to be a true cat, a semi-anthropomorphic cat or a full non-cat character)

Daffy (Warner's greatest comic character, master of the pratfall and the mirror of humanity)

Bugs Bunny (Chuck Jone’s version mostly, with the occasional short from another director).

Marvin the Martian (an animator's dream character, no mouth, no worries with lip-sync :D oh and I just like the Martian’s genteel aspects)

Like

Wile E. Coyote

Tasmanian Devil (he made be nothing like a devil in terms of looks, but I still like him)

Pete Puma (If only because of that voice and wheezy laugh that Stan Freiberg gave him)

Dislike

The Goofy Gophers

Speedy Gonzales (“I the best at what I do” yeah being a arrogant rodent)

Bugs Bunny (Early [esp. prototype]and Loser Bugs, particularly Camplett’s)

Merlin the Magic Mouse (Do what I say Second Banana cause I'm always right)

Cool Cat (The original Looney Tunes shorts ended with this terrible character  what a way to go)

Ralph Wolf (partly because it was a lazy way to create a new character and I just didn’t like the wolf/sheep cartoons).

Tweety (The early Camplett one just rubbed me the wrong way for some reason and the later one seems content to just let Granny, Hector the dog, or someone else do almost all the real work. I don’t just want commentary from a character. There some okay in the middle. Yet if I want to watch a cat chase a small animal, I go with Tom and Jerry, at least both parties are active throughout their careers).

On a side note, in my youth I had to see a voice therapist because I mispronounced words like Granny.

Loath

Any character who calls another one George when they name isn’t George (not technically limited to Warner shorts). Usually reserved for dumb, practically invincible characters who’s over affectionateness could kill.

Foghorn Leghorn I say Foghorn Leghorn. :censored: patronising Fowl :irate:

Miss Prissy (I’ve always hated her and probably always will… Y-Yesss)

Pretty much everyone else I can think of I’m fairly neutral towards, unless we go outside of Termite Terrace.

Although he was made outside of Warner Bros., the one character that I loath above all others is Mr. Magoo. This is mostly because I wear glasses and feel as if I’m being made the subject of mirth.
