Now I'm somewhat ashamed of my DTV collection...

I have Stitch has a Glitch, lion king 2&3, Bambi 2...

Because I found them all for under 10$ they were quick, easy, almost painless purchases.

However, I saw Balto 2 and Balto 3 in the discount PV bin at rogers the other day and kinda hovered....

No sale.

It's not like I don't trust the keyframe community,
but well..
OK< I admit,
I really don't.

We're a rather small community with a wide range of opinions,
And when everyone suddenly randomly agrees that Balto's sequels were the best DTV's ever made
it's
CREEPY AS HELL!

So am I missing out?

hey, ya gotta trust the Keyframe Community... I would never have seen Cats Don't Dance (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Cats_Don%27t_Dance/54/) without all the recommendations that I read here and boy am I ever glad that I did. :D

Kidding aside, I would say that if you enjoyed the original Balto movies you will probably enjoy the sequels... I'll admit of the DTVs you listed I've only seen Lion King II and it's not among my favourite films... not bad, just not particularly good either.

But if you're still in doubt, think of Keyframe reviews as you would any other critic you might read... this person says that they LOVED this film... well, what other films did they love? Are they the same kind of films that you love? And for the same reasons? Anyone who reads my reviews has got to know by now that I'm no expert when it comes to anime... there's some I like but there's a lot I don't... if, hypothetically, you're a massive fan of anime then my disliking a movie you haven't seen should probably not be a deciding factor as to whether you go and see that movie or not.

that's where things get tricky...
Most of keyframe's top reviewers vote excellent scores on some of my favorite movies,
and give other personal favorites aweful scores.

Movies that are deciding factors for me, seriously.
There don't seem to be enough people whose opinions wholly are in tune with mine.

Oh and BTW GO SEE CARS.
It's the second 3D film (Incredibles was the first) that I'm actually willing to pay to see in theatres more than once.
Twice actually.
Maybe three times,
But I have a free ticket for this saturday.
It's crack candy!

Well that's the fun of reviewing... no two people's opinions are ever going to be exactly the same. :D

I will say though that the best thing about Keyframe for me has been getting introduced to animation that I would never have been exposed to otherwise... like Cats Don't Dance or Avatar: The Last Airbender or Neurotically Yours... there's just so much out there--and often, so much crap to sift through--it's hard to know where to begin.

There don't seem to be enough people whose opinions wholly are in tune with mine.
Well I've said it before and will likely keep on saying it... the more regular reviewers we have, the more balanced the database becomes. I have yet to come up with a good way of getting the word out about this site, but I'll keep trying... :)

Indeed,
but it makes using their opinion to gauge the value of a DVD pretty tough.

hehe. well I'd take a Keyframer's opinion over a swarmy newspaper critic any day of the week.

Personally I hated Wolf Quest. It's one of the worst dtvs I think I've ever seen next to maybe return of jafar and little mermaid 2. XD Wings of Change is better, but it's not astounding. I at least enjoyed it though.

I'm in a minority here (though I think opinion might be slowly swinging a bit more my way) in that I think Wolf Quest 3 is the weajer of the two, but they're both about the same and have their strengths and qeaknesses. Wolf Quest has some really awful characters at the end, some yucky songs, and bad CGI clashing with 2D, and it unforgivably undermines the end of the original story. Balto 3 has an atrocious supporting character and justy seems generally a bit lacklustre to me. I think I said it my review, but Wolf Quest tried to punch above its weight, and could have succeeded if a bit more attention had been paid to it. Balto 3 is less ambitious and a bit more like a re-run of the original but without the passion, but probably suvveeds more at what it tries to do.

I think they're both worth seeing if you liked the original Balto. If you didn't, forget it. FWIW my favourite 2D sequel is Lion King 1.5 (and I didn't like the original Lion King much).

Should you trust people? Well, Keyframe, for reasons which escape me completely, has always attracted an unusual number of Balto fans, so possibly the reviews are a little skewed to the positive. You may be right to be suspicious. I like them, but then I'm one of the Balto fans ;)

I'm with Loop- WoC might've been better quality-wise, but WQ is just more watchable for me. Oh well, I've got no regrets pertaining to the subject.
