I've now set a minimum review length of 40 words for all new reviews. To give you an idea of what 40 words looks like, it's the same number of words taken out as a preview snippet for a new review on the homepage.

And before anyone says, "but why?" or "everyone has said everything that I wanted to before"... to which I say... so what?

Don't worry too much if you find yourself repeating the sentiment of a previous reviewer--if you're agreeing with them, that's a perfectly valid and an important thing to add to the review... because you might agree with them on that point, but disagree about something else.

Remember, the review is your opinion... why you liked or disliked a piece of animation... and when there is a consensus of opinion on a film, that's when we start to see our leaders of the pack in the Top 5s. The minimum review length has simply been implemented so that we can hear fewer "I liked it"... and more of why you liked it.

So now in order to vote not only do you have to have an opinion, you have to have a reason to have an opinion..... That sounds safe,
But sometimes you just like or dislike something.

40 words sounds reasonable to me :)

Perhaps, but we are calling these *reviews*... if I wanted a straight vote we'd just allow people to put in star-ratings... although personally I don't think that's all that useful to me if I'm trying to decide whether or not to check out this piece of animation.

hehe, don't worry. I have no intention of making people write essays. ;)
