ugh, so why does Final Fantasy: Spirits Within (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Final_Fantasy:_The_Spirits_Within/70/) even MAKE that list??

plus I don't think Fantasia (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Fantasia/104/) belongs at #1 either... :irked:

I notice that Alice in Wonderland, Lord of the Rings and Dinosaur - all of which topped out bottom 5 at one point - are all there. And all higher than The Plague Dogs

Disclaimer: There is nothing 'Official' about these lists. They are compiled by the 'editor' using the stated criteria, and revised considering the competent suggestions of visitors to this website only.

So it would seem that this is just ones person's opinion, rather than a list using some kind of voting system; so it's even more subjective than these lists usually are.

I think Fantasia should be on the list, but not right at the top; although I do understand that it's an acquired taste.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Alice in Wonderland, Lord of the Rings and Dinosaur

Four films that would possibly end up on my top bottom animated films of all time; if I even wrote one. :eyebrow:

EDIT: Thanks MonkeyFunk :irked: my mind must have wondered.

Final Fantasy: Spirited Away

Dude dude dude, it's Spirits Within! You had me scared for a minute ;)

Y'know, the problem with these things is that there's usually a lack of variety near the top. I mean, in this case, the top 5 is all Disney/Pixar; the top 10, aside from Yellow Submarine, is all Disney/Pixar/Touchstone. I liked the Olympics Arts Fetival list (the famous one which Tale of Tales topped) because it took a one-film-per-director approach.

(and yeah, I know my top 500 list didn't follow this rule, but I was just having fun)

My mind is wandering through Keyframe what-ifs now... but I really should see if there's a way to organize the review lists in the user profiles by animation type and then best to worst... it wouldn't be an EXACT top films list for reviewer, but it would get across the gist of it...

...my problem is I'm still having problems deciphering all the new code. But I'm working on it...

What I find funny about these things is that, no matter what's on the list, pretty much veryone else ALWAYS thinks whoever compiled it is a moron who doesn't understand animation at all and that they could do much better.

My personal favourite instance of this came when I posted Channel 4's top 100 at an anime board, and someone said "if these people really knew what they were talking about, 90% of the list would be anime".

I'm just curious as to why Rock & Rule wasn't on the list. IMO it's much better than others of its genre, such as Heavy Metal, and it was really ahead of its time when it came to some of the effects (computers were only used about twice, I think, so most of the other effects involved models, and a rather interesting use of cow brains with a multi-plane camera for the demon sequence, amongst other techniques).

I think the Plague Dogs should have been much higher, too, as should Metropolis. Still, as has been said before, it's mostly the personal opinion of whoever made that list, so I guess everyone except that person probably has suggestions of their own about it.

Ralph Bakshi's first 4 films all in the top 75. Guess someone agrees with me (and they were the four good ones. too)

I certainly don't think that A Bug's Life should be ranked as high as it is. Come on, it's ranked way above The Incredibles and The Secret of NIMH.

I agree with you on that one... Bug's Life is probably my least favourite of Pixar's films that I've seen--don't know yet where Cars will fit in that equation, but anyways...

oh, and welcome to the site btw. Nice choice on the avatar--no one else seems to have used that one yet. :D

Why is 'A Bug's Life' so underratted by the animation community?
I think it's a great movie, as all Pixar films are. It's funny, it has charm, wit, action, and all the stuff that makes Pixar movies awesome.
Am I missing something here?

A Bug's Life is by no means a poor movie, but in my opinion, The Incredibles and The Secret of NIMH are much better. I agree with some of the placements, but for the most part, it seems like more of a favourite animated films list, without any particular order.

Not in my mind -- I always liked A Bugs's Life better than most of the other Pixar films (behind The Incredibles and Monsters Inc). It may not be technically better than Cars and Finding Nemo, but I liked the story better.

Although Ice Age made the list, I noticed that Robots was missing. I thought that it was the best 3D animated films of last year.

Okay, we should all lay off this list, cause I've found what has to be the silliest such list on the net. Here we go:

RottenTomatoes' top animated movies (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/top/bestofrt_genre.php?category=200207%2C+200015%2C+20 0016%2C+200017%2C+200135%2C+200231%2C+200293%2C+20 0438%2C+203590)

Supposedly, any animated movie with at least 20 reviews and a score of at least 60% is counted, but I couldn't hope to notice that the list was a little... short - in particular I noticed Shrek and Toy Story 2 weren't on the list, even though they met the requirements. So what was up?

It took me a while but eventually I worked it out - the "animation" genre is in RT's database more than once, and this list only takes notice of one of those genre clones. So, because of this slip-up, any number of acclaimed animated movies are exempt from the list.
