oh yes, it was a very fun morning here in Keyframe land as I come in to the site first thing as I usually do and discover that one of the two databases that drive the site was *gone*.
Thankfully, it was not the main keyframe database--the one that stores all the profiles/reviews/etc... it was the forum database that stores all the forum messages and all the user accounts...
Long story short... any account changes, new accounts and messages to the forum posted since May 6th are gone.
REALLY sorry about that... I do my own backups, but I've been having rather severe back pain for the past couple weeks and we had to rely on my webhost's backup of database... gotta say I'm rather disappointed that they don't backup more often than that... I'm going to be investigating if we can do some kind of automatic daily backup for the site since we clearly need it, but until then I guess I'll have to be more diligent.

Been wondering what the site was doing, haven’t had much luck recently have you :( . Not the sort of thing you want to see happen to anything you’ve put stuff on, thankfully it wasn’t the profiles/reviews though.
Good luck on that investigation.

Ah, just noticed that Web Animation is sort of missing. The profiles and reviews are still there, but it's missing its pictures and it's not on the left menu.
I suppose this is another result from that crash.:(

Not to add to your misery, but Starlac and I noted this in the editor's lounge, and I don't know if you'd had time to see it.
The profile page for cast members defaults to voice actor roles. Which means that if someone is a director or writer of 30 movies, but has has a voice role in one or two, they are the only two that will show up on the profile page (e.g. check Tedd Pierce, Michael Maltese or Ralph Bakshi)

No, I've been trying to stay away from the computer to let my back recover... I was out all of last week--didn't go to work at all...

hmm... not quite sure what you mean here, but I uploaded all the PHP files changed since May 6th, so can you see if that fixed the problem?

Basically when it chooses a random profile to put in the highlight box, if that person has an entry in the voice cast list it seems to override the other categories, The upload hasn't fixed that problem.
Check out Michael Maltese's (most Warner shorts) profile, he has only one voice entry (wackiki Wabbit) and use refresh a few times, you'll see what we mean.
I've checked the profiles I've added and a few of others, all images accounted for; including the webs.

Oh, err... yea, currently that is how it's coded... :o
Voice Roles and Crew Credits are recorded in separate tables in the database... currently the system checks if there are any voice roles, if yes--show highlight... if no, check crew credits and then show highlight... unfortunately, I didn't know of a way to dump results from both tables into a single randomizer.
hmm... HOWEVER... what I could do is create some kind of priority system so that if the person has more crew credits than voice roles, it chooses the highlight from crew credits... maybe that would work better.

If you mean it chooses an entry from ALL of the categories within crew - so there are only two categories: voice actor and crew - then that's pretty good, since not that many directors or writers or composers get voice roles, and if they do, it's likely to be in one of the films they directed anyway.
But if it just selects the largest of the crew categories, that would still be a bit of a pain, as all but one category is going to come up 0% of the time. Though the rule of thumb outlined still applies, some people would fall through the net. For instance people who started out as writers or animators and worked their way up to become directors, on other projects. But I'm guessing version 1 is what you meant anyway.

Alright, I may change it later but I'll consider it a low priority.

Incidentally that phrase comes from my personal collection of pgrases lifted out of SPAM gibberish. It might just have easily been 'Scornful Gorgon', 'Macroscopic mothball', 'thyrotoxic teacart', or 'Millionaire placenta'.
