I'm shifting this out of the 'telemovies' thread just because I think that's going to be a separate headache.

I would define them by where they were shown, or primarily shown, if one migrates from the web to TV (or if a TV show migrates to the web, as in 'The Critic'). So 'Quads' is a TV show. I don't think it matters what it was made with. We don't differentiate between TV series that are CGI vs 2D.
So just to digest what I'm hearing from all sides:

1) We need a Web Animation category which would contain animations that are defined as "short films or series whose primary method of distribution is the web"... by this I mean animation that is thought of and promoted as a WEB animation... 'Podcasts' of Pixar shorts--go in short films because their web release is a secondary deal... the same way that a theatrical film getting released on video doesn't make it a DTV... and if the WB is releasing a series straight to the web, then it makes it a web series...

I think the only way to do this is to use the rules as guides and after that go with your gut on how this piece of animation is perceived... the categories are there to help people find what they're looking for if browsing so the animation's categorization has to be logical above anything else...

2) the word 'series' needs to be tacked on as needed for the Web Animation as well as... sorry, some of the category whose name I missed... I think the best way to handle this in the admin area is, with the exception of TV series, if you enter something in 'Number of Episodes' the system will tack on "(series)" at the end of the link.

On the subject of "student animation"... I think there's two ways to go on this... 1) File them under 'Short Films'... 2) I mentioned before that I intend to open a 'Learning Animation' section and 'Animation School Database'... a logical addition to those areas would be a student film gallery.

I know, I know... WHEN will this happen... eventually... unless someone is a PHP wizard and they haven't mentioned it yet. :D

Just a comment: considering how sporadically updated some webcartoons are, an episode count could be a pain to keep updated :S

True. We also don't list numbers of eps for TV series that are still in production.
