Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are returning to theaters on October 2, 2009 and February 12, 2010, respectively. Not only that, but the films will be in Disney Digital 3D. Apparently, this is being done to get audiences excited for Toy Story 3, set for release on June 18, 2010.

I haven't quite decided whether this is a good thing or not. The Disney remake of The Nightmare Before Christmas into 3-D was well-done: not an in-your-face kind of 3-D but subtle enough to give extra depth to the characters and sets. The technology seems to be pretty good and I like the idea of using it for new films (Meet the Robinsons was pretty good in 3-D). However, it makes me wonder whether this will become just a gimmack -- and more costly to movie goers: it costs me 25% more to see a Disney 3-D movie than to see it in its regular form (mostly because only a few movie theaters can afford the projection system needed to show the movies and those theaters that have installed the systems have charged higher prices to recoup some of the cost). I wonder whether Disney is going to recoup its conversion costs by re-releasing these films in 3-D.

I really liked this new verion, are quite surprising at time. In my country the cost for tickets in movie theaters is actually so expensive (sometimes even the IMAX and 3D theaters cost the same as a regular ticket!!) and I certainly prefer paying 10% o 15% more if I'm going to watch something better. Meet The Robinsons look really good with the 3D treatment, sadly I've never got the chance to see Nightmare Before Christmas...
What I'm truly concerned about is with Toy Story 3... willl Pixar surpass themselves a third time??

/Film has some news (http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/02/20/toy-story-3-plot-revealed/) about Toy Story 3 up, taken from the Wall Street Journal. The plot is this: Woody the cowboy and his toy-box friends are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, leaves for college. Apparently, Disney wrote a plot involving Buzz to get recalled and everyone having to rescue him, but Pixar rejected it.

It sounds pretty good. Sort of a mix between the earlier Toy Story movies and The Brave Little Toaster.
