View Full Version : Do you ever change your rating?

I just wondered whether anyone else ever goes back after reconsidering a rating they'd given a film, and changes it - as I just did. I initially gave 'Howl's Moving Castle' 3.5 stars, but after a few hours of letting the thing sink in, I decided I couldn't quite justify that. (that's why I try and wait at least a day before reviewing anything. Tonight I didn't.)

It's not just recent reviews I've done that with, either. I've gone back and changed my rating months afterwards. Sometimes it seems to take that long for some hidden weakness or strength to emerge. And it seems that the majority of my reviews are teetering between one rating and another (I'd be more comfortable with a system where I could give something more exact like 83% or something, but for the most part I've grown used to Keyframe's 7 grades.

Oh yes, and I frequently fiddle with my reviews. If something goes up by me, don't expect it to be the final draft for an hour at least! :)

In fact I just fiddled with this post.

I've had moments when I've reconsidered a rating that I think may have been too harsh (or generous) with it's giving, most of which I've ignored. Changing a score has been a rarity with me so far, both on Keyframe and elsewhere.

I will admit that I do fix the odd gammar/typo that you can only see after you've forgot what it was you writen.

I wouldn't mind a percentage scoring system, but I'm quite happy with the star one Keyframe has. Beside what would you be able to do with reviews like those fan ones for Doria, did those fans ever turn up again on the site after their reviews?

I fix the grammar sometimes as well as down grade or up grade the rating. I recently changed my Caglisotro rating to 3 stars.

I go back and edit sometimes, especially if I find a typo or something very wrong with the grammar. I sometimes change a rating after rewatching a movie since I haven't watched some of the films I reviewed fo several years.

In the heat of the moment I'll sometimes give a rating that's up or down a star...

And If I'm watching again, and something strikes me and makes me think differently about the film
I will go back and change it.

Or if someone points out to me something about a movie that I really love or really hate, and I debate with myself on whether or not its really justifiable to love or hate it like I do,
I will change my mind and my review and my rating.
I have written lengthy reviews, gone back and read them and thought,
I don't want to be remembered for writing this,
And re-write the entire thing.

And I've gone and changed ratings, and then changed back, fourth, up down, just thinking of how I'm rating and why.

Example: Triplettes of Belleville.
I honestly thought that I must have missed something of the greatness of that movie,
But I didn't like it.
Sure the animation was great and the opening song was great, and it was quirky,
but I found the pace boring, and I couldn't force myself to give half of two shits about any of the characters, and those are two things I value highly when watching an animated film are the characters and the pace...

So at first i gave it a review, bad rating,
thought about it,
gave it a better rating but the same review,
then changed my review and lowered my rating and then thought I was being unfair about it all and that I should give it a better rating because it was obviously quality or everyone wouldn't be ranting about it
and then
realized that if everyone else on this site can review movies the way they feel about them and not just based on technical achievements then so should I.

So i lowered the score,
and then feeling bad for bumping it outta the top five put it back up again.

RATING DRAMA OMG!
So...
in short
YES I DO!
Don't feel bad, i bet you're not as chronic as I am.

Kinda ironic how you spelled "grammar" and "written", there.

I don't change my rating very often, but sometimes. I'm currently debating bumping my Tsukikage Ran rating down to 3, having rated it when I was totally in love with it. :p But I may let it stand.

I don't have that many reviews and I want to change some already. Like Pocahontas. I always loved it as a kid and I watched it sometime last summer and liked it, but for some reason when I watched it a few days ago, I didn't... weird.
