Hi
I'm interested in using live action to create animation, kind of like they did in "Waking Life". I'm wondering what would be good software to use for that? The software that they used in "Waking Life" is not for sale. Does anyone know of reasonably priced software that does the same thing?
Thanks

Hi Turtledove,
My apologies for not getting to this sooner... I found the email alert buried in about 100 messages of pure spam. :irked:
Anyways, in terms of creating that kind of animated-look cost effectively you might want to consider looking at the video filters available to you in your digital video software. I'm thinking something like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro--although I haven't used the latter in a while. If you want software that's used specifically for video manipulation, you might want to try Adobe After Effects as well.
Video filters work in much the same way as Photoshop filters do... manipulating the image to get a specific look--ie. posterized or solarized or watercolour, etc. etc... if you look at this video project (http://athena.adwin.ca/project/video/38/) I did in school... the original video footage for the Evanesence performance was very washed out and desaturated... everything was this sort of murky pale blue colour... I didn't think the look would fit with what I wanted to do so I applied two filters to those clips--one that oversaturated colour and another to create those deep blacks over the image. It's been some years so I can't remember which filters I used exactly, but I do know they were part of the basic arsenal in Adobe Premiere.
My thinking is that you could probably dig through there and find some combination of filters that could give you the animated-look you're after.
again, sorry for the late response and I hope that helps...
