*This post contains spoilers for Wolf's Rain"

At some point or another I want to review Wolf's Rain, but I have a dilemma. Wolf's rain is a beautiful piece of art, and probably changed the way I look at the world forever. Naturally I'd want to give it four stars, but I have one problem...

Blue. I thought Blue had the potential to be an incredibly complex and interesting character, when she was still a dog. Later in the series, when she reveals her human form, she becomes a classic, anime miniskirt wearing tough girl. This was incredibly disappointing. Blue, the tough wolf-hunter should not take on a pretty human form. Her human form probably should have been the female equivalent of Quent. This part just seemed to be an anime pitfall to me.

What really bothers me, is Blue doesn't really develop in an interesting direction after she reveals her human form. Her relationship with Cheza, which was previously complex, because quite simplistic. Also, I would think Blue would hate wolves to some extent. If the creators had played on that aspect, there would have been many opportunities to do something very interesting with her.

I am curious of what Wolf's Rain fans think of that observation, also if they think I should give it 4 stars, or 3.5.

I think you should give it whatever you think it's worth, and not worry about what anyone else thinks. I gave it 4 stars. Inkwolf gave it 3.5.

As far as Blue goes, I'd just say this is a very emotionally complex series, and I don't know that I have any better idea than anyone else about her ultimate purpose. But I'll bet it's less simple than it appears.

I thought it was extraordinary, but that's just me.

I would agree with you. Wolf's Rain is a very emotionally complex series.

When I finished watching Wolf's Rain, I just couldn't stop making connections. From the beginning to the ending, from character to character, Kiba and Darcia's dualism e.t.c. Everything began to fit for me, but Blue was always the missing piece. I could not, and still can't find her purpose. She always struck me as a catalyst for Quent and Hige's character development. This was the one blemish on the series for me.

I think I will have to watch Wolf's Rain one more time. To see if I can begin to understand where Blue fit in. If I am still unable to, then I will decide if the show is worth four star or three and a half stars.

She was also obviously the bridge between the wolves and the humans (at least Quent) - being close to each but but not actually one of them.

It's funny how blind I can be sometimes. I honestly never thought about that. Come to think of it, in the last four episodes, she brought everyone together before they... well, died. Blue basically brought Quent to Hubb and Cher, and later Blue found the rest of the wolves through Hige. All the characters finally came physically together, before they were separated.

Thank you Lupercal, you've made my day.:)
