I haven't gone to see a movie at a theater since I saw Paprika this summer, so I am about ready to get out to see one. I noticed that the 3-D version of the film is showing at my favorite theater so I will probably go see how well Beowulf plays in 3-D. Maybe the effects will be good even if the rest of the movie doesn't pan out.

Hey, so you did get a chance to see Paprika, after all. You should write a review for it! ...DVD on the 27th...just to put it out there; I'll put a reminder on the Paprika thread on the 27th, of course. Is it obvious that I liked that movie?

*smacks himself*

I think I can set some time aside to see Beowulf. I'm not especially keen on the previews...the characters seem to be cursed by the same inability to make facial expressions that so many 3D animations suffer from. Still, it's somewhat groundbreaking in its own way, and I'm not one to throw the first stone.
...at the...animation. Before...the theater throws...a stone at me. Wow, that didn't work out too well. You get my point.

P.S. If this post seems crazy, just blame it on the college football finale game against OSU tomorrow. Go Blue!

I saw it in an "artsy" theater in Maine at the end of August. Nice small crowd so it was a good viewing environment. I have been meaning to write a review for it but I haven't gotten to it yet (...along with the 30+ other films/shorts/tv shows that I've wanted to write reviews for...). I already have my copies of the Paprika DVD on order (...I plan on giving some away for Christmas...).

I'll probably see it out of morbid curiosity.

I saw Black Cauldron and Ralph Baksi's LOTR out of morbid curiosity. You know what I pretty much did after both films?.... :barf:

Let's hope this film will be better.

hmm... that's actually a fair point... how can an audience protest these days if the film ends up making mega bucks? :irked:

Okay, I just saw Monster House yesterday which uses the same "performance" capture process.

I liked the story but the "animation" was jerky and looked like people in rubber suits. I'm sorry but that seriously subtracted a lot from my experience and was distracting.

Also, all throughout the movie I was thinking:

"aggh, that expression would have looked SO much better if the pushed it just a bit more..."

"That gesture needs to be more exaggerated to get the point across"

"These cops move waaay too much like guys in rubber suits"

If the characters move or emote ANYTHING like that in Beowulf it's just not gonna pull me in. It's gonna distract me and I'm just gonna keep thinking the same thing...

THEY SHOULD HAVE PUSHED IT.
