Considering that the joke in the trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/alvinandthechipmunks/) features Theodore's "raisin", I can't say I have a lot of hope for this film...

Why can't these remakes even marginally respect the spirit of the original material? :irked:

Gonna have to agree with you, there. And the "A" on Alvin's shirt is not NEARLY as big as it should be.

Honestly, when I saw that preview in the theaters, I physically recoiled at the sight of those things. They look nothing like the original characters. Whoever was running the show on that development team apparently gave the animators a license to completely annihilate and utterly disfigure the appearance of the very characters that the movie is supposed to be celebrating. The writing looks juvenile, the premise looks shallow, and the character models just look scary.

But you don't have to take my word for it! :)
So take a look...inside a book...with Reading Rainbow...

Well, I don’t know, this new looks seems to resemble what the chipmunks looked like back on their original 1958 album. Which design was more based on the real life chipmunk than cartoon convention, look at the image attachment to see what I mean. Though I’ll admit to not wholly liking this new look, or that 'joke', but mostly I thought "so you backtracking to something resembling the original, original design, interesting." As well as noting that many wouldn't like it.

The look of the characters from the eighties series that everyone associates with Alvin and company had its origins in The Alvin Show (http://www.keyframeonline.com/Animation/The_Alvin_Show/828/), which redesigned the characters to work with the limitations of early TV animation. This (at the time) new look later got refined when Ross B Jr. took over the characters for the Eighties series.

I think nostaglia is to blame a bit for this, that and the fact that I can't think of many that would remember that original cover's design.

Alright, currently the worst thing about this movie is that I have had the snippet of the song in the trailer stuck in my head for the past two days... :headbang:

Heh heh...oops. I guess it's pretty bad when I mis-quote a kid's show for basic literacy...

I am not excited for this either. Honestly, if I want an Alvin movie, I'll go buy the Chipmunk Movie that came out on dvd a few months back.
