That should make otaku happy. Howl's Moving Castle' didn't win either of them. I suppose they'll be going on about 'This American jerk who plays with badly drawn skeletons' now.

Don't you get it ? They actually love it when anime dosen't get credit to feel that they belong to an elite fan base of superior animation.

The award was restricted to European movies, so Howl didn't qualify. Corpse Bride was, apparently, co-produced in the UK.
