My disbelief hit rock bottom when Animated News announced the plot for Bambi II (/Animation/Bambi_and_the_Great_Prince_of_the_Forest/40/)... and when there was that petition to stop them from making the sequel to Snow White--I haven't heard any more about it so public outcry may have actually succeeded there.
Hey at least Eisner's gone now...

I wish they'd stop. They're just milking the cash cow. I heard a rumor about a Fox and the Hound sequal. :ppbb: I sure hope it's not true.

Yea, IMDb's got it... Patrick Swayze (Cash) and Reba McEntire (Dixie)... to release November 2006.
maybe I should reconsider my decision not to include the 'barfing' smiley... I couldn't think what it might be used for, but now...

That's awful! I hope it doesn't sell, but I know it'll probably bring in quite a profit. :/

Mmm yeah it's been used many a time on a forum I visit and most of the time it's always on a Disney sequal thread! lol

hehe, actually the image isn't too far off reality right now. I'm home sick from work today because I was feeling nauseous and headache-y when I got up this morning.

I actually think Bambi 2 looks good, at least from an animation perspective. I think the quality at least is improving. "Lilo and Stich 2: Stitch Has a Glitch" looked nicely donde too.
But I AM getting kinda sick of Disney sequels and all those horrid Land Before Time sequels.

Oh yes. LBT should have stopped at #2! The Fievel dtvs are just as bad. :bazooka: I just hope they don't turn Balto into a LBT.
Lucky_Bob

lol they totally ruined LBT. Although I'm not a big fan of the original these DTVS make it look like "The Incredibles". I definantly prefer the original to the sequels.

Okay, (staying in the topic of Disney sequels) I don't think all of the Disney sequels are that bad.
With exceptions to Cinderella 2, the Atlantis sequel, Tarzan and Jane, and probably a couple of other ones.
Sure, the obvious sequel plot-lines make most people dislike the DTV sequels. Only a few sequels by Disney that follow the whole "sequel-with-offspring" thing in my opinion are really good. It's the animation that gets my attention! That's what it's all about, right? (also the original cast does it too)
Now, the plans for upcoming sequels: *gasp* Cinderella 3, Fox and the Hound 2, Bambi 2, Aristocats 2, The Little Mermaid 3, . . . . *sigh* It'll never end, will it?
Only if we could get some really good storylines and good animation (like from what I've seen with the upcoming Bambi 2), then we might be good. But there are some movies that shouldn't have sequels of destruction (such as the fairytale ones: Cinderella, Little Mermaid, and so on). At least Aladdin stopped at two sequels.
^__^ That's my two cents.

They won't stop though if people keep buying/renting them... I know I'm guilty of checking these things out if only out of pure morbid curiousity... I'll probably be out there on the first day renting Bambi II (../Animation/Bambi_and_the_Great_Prince_of_the_Forest/40/) just to see if it's as bizarre as I'm imagining it to be.

Athena,
Do you really think it looks that bizarre? I checked part of it out on the Cinderella DVD and the character animation looks great. It looks theater quality.
I'm looking forward to taking a look. If anything I'll watch it for the animation and maybe not as much for the story.

Iam tired of Disney's useless Sequels as well. But Iam going to amdit, they are getting better at them. But still, they're usually mediocre at best.

Did Disney do Shrek?
I thought that was the WORST SEQUAL of all time, save for 'Scooby Doo 2'.
I know I will probably piss off a few people in here with that comment, but I thought that Shrek 2 was very grown-up, and disturbing to me that it was marketed toward little kids.:ppbb:

Did Disney do Shrek?
Nope, Dreamworks did Shrek (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Shrek/144/)... the first one, the second one and the eventually to be released third, fourth and Puss-in-Boots spin-off. :P
It's interesting to note that in the recent purchase of the Dreamworks by Paramount the only thing that wasn't sold from what I understand was Dreamworks Animation... as it was the only part of the company making any real money... and the bulk of that is basically thanks to the Shrek series.

Actually the thing I'm hung up on is the plot description that I originally pulled from Animated News...
"It is your basic teenage angst tale, dealing with Bambi coping with his Father, the Great Prince, and his finding of a new mate while an orphaned Bambi comes to terms with his Mother's death."
Admittedly it could be done well, but there's something about the idea of it that has me imagining Bambi going through teenage rebellion--complete with black leather and piercings. ;)

Athena: The only weird thing I see is that the summary on Bambi 2's profile really needs to be edited. A lot. I guess that summary was the original plot for the film. Thank goodness for editing, because it was better than any Disney sequel I have ever seen.

I haven't watched Bambi II yet, so do you think you could provide us with a paragraph that can be used for the synopsis?

Anywho, as if things weren't bad as it is, I've heard about the following Disney DTV sequels/releases in the future (both known and new):
- Fox and the Hound 2 (which doesn't sound like a sequel at all . . . more midquel-ish here)
- Brother Bear 2 (looks promising; release date is set for August this year)
- The Little Mermaid 3
- Cinderella 3
- Peter Pan 3 (I could use that barp emoticon right here)
- Tinkerbell: the Movie (Umm . . . why?)
- The Aristocats 2
(will add more when I find more)
*whew* Disney's making sure to get all of the money they can out of these in the next few years . . . and risking to destroy the original film at the same time . . .
*sigh*

[EDIT] Here's some possible release dates/years for upcoming DTVs for Disney:
- Leroy and Stitch (sometime in 2006)
- Cinderella 3 (I see Feb. 1, 2007)
- Aristocats 2 (November 9, 2007)
- Tinker Bell: the Movie (2007; no date yet)
- Peter Pan 3 (2007; no date yet)
- The Little Mermaid 3 (2008)
(information from THIS SITE (http://disney.jbug.net/video.htm); I think it's in Chinese . . .)

So it looks like The Fox and the Hound 2 is going to be a midquel. Which doesn't make any sense because I'm wondering how they're going to fit it into the grand scheme of the original. Unless they go off and do these things while Big Mama is still singing "Best of Friends", there's basically no room during the moments when they were still kids to squash in a sideplot.
I've seen the commercial to it at Wal-Mart. I think they were playing Lady and the Tramp. I wanted to run away screaming because the animation, songs, and the style of the dogs reminded me of All Dogs Go To Heaven 2. The Fox and the Hound is different from modern Disney because the animals acted more or less like natural animals. -.- I'm going to rent it out of morbid curiosity, but I'm not going to enjoy this.

I feel like I'm not going to enjoy the sequel/midquel either . . . . *blargh Disney is evil*
It's too bright and cheery for the uberly-sad and depressing original. Ew. And this makes me sad.

Has Disney been turning a profit with these sequels? I don't hear about people buying them up, but then again with animation being exported for production I don't suppose they had large budgets.

I can see these sequels falling into the category of "things parents use as babysitters for small children"...

"'News for
Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001) (V)'
Disney Surprises Wall Street With Hefty Profit
3 August 2001 (StudioBriefing)... [with] strong DVD sales, particularly for its direct-to-video production of Lady and the Tramp II... The company said that it earned $362 million on revenue of $5.98 billion versus $361 million on revenue of $6.05 billion during the same quarter a year ago. The improvement came despite a 29-percent downturn in Disney's TV business..."
-IMDb, <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0249677/news>
While this isn't the analysis of a direct-to-video movie explicitly, I suppose Disney wouldn't have kept making direct-to-video sequels if they weren't making $$$.

Lilo and Stitch are great and I'm glad they're in KH2.
As for Disney, yeah, it's dumb. Adapting fairy tales is one thing, even if you do heavily modify them, but making up new stories for them after they're supposed to have ended happily? Bah.
I've got an idea! Hunchback of Notre Dame II: Quasimodo and Esmerelda go on a journey together to save forest animals from loggers. Then they get married.

I imagine the pre production meeting at Disney would go like this...
' We are thinking of making a sequel to Dumbo, but we would like to remove all the schmaltz, the kitchiness, the quality, the heart and basically rehash the first story but with characters you don't care about...and could we get Gilbert Gottfried to do a voice?'
...I am sorry, is my sarcasm showing?
For me I am one of the few people who really love the Disney Sequels if something doesn't seem good I just don't rent it or buy it. But I haven't seen a sequel that I haven't at least thought was good yet.
These are the ones I've seen:
Rescuers Down Under: What can I say? This is one of the only DTV'S I can really call a classic. Great animation, Great characters, Great villian. 10/10 stars
Lady and the Tramp 2: I really liked this movie it's one of those DTV'S that I can never really get bored of. 8/10 stars
Lion King 2: This movie was really good I really liked it. 8/10 stars
Lion King 1 1/2: One of the sequels I really didn't think was great 4/10 stars
Brother Bear 2: I enjoyed this movie I can't really say it measures anything close to Rescuers Down Under. 6/10
Bambi 2: This is one of the movies I really , really, really, loved. I especially liked Ronno. 9/10
Fox and the Hound 2: For this I'd say it was the 2nd best DTV ........ that came out in 2006. I liked it more then Brother Bear 2 and really enjoyed the new characters. 8/10

Well Down Under was a theatrical production, rather than a DTV. Which of course meant it had a feature's budget and the feature animation crew and tech to work with. I can still remember seeing the film's theatrical trailer, years before the words DTV and Disney went together.
I noticed Fox & the Hound (both the new DVD and its DTV sequel) sitting on the shop shelves today, and passed both by. I've already got the film's last DVD release and I'll check the prices on Amazon and elsewhere before I buy the sequel.
I come to the point now where I'm rather defensive when it comes to buying DTV (or going to the cinema), less the film gets a great review or I can rent it first I generally keep away. Though saying that I do have all those you mentioned (bar Fox).

I saw part of The Lion King 2 on YouTube (they took it down though before I could finish grr...) and it was actually nicely done animation wise. The songs where kinda blah though and what's with the New Age crap? "We are one" etc. Is this just a trademark of sequels or something?
Because generally, in the sequel, the New Age stuff seems to be worse (Lion King 2) or just added in for some unknown reason (Balto 2).
I'm talking about stuff that had very little or no New Age gobbledeegook in it like The Lion King or Balto (yes, I know it is not Disney but the same rules seem to apply...), not stuff that already had it in there like Pochahantas or Brother Bear.
