alright boys and girls... there's no area in my mind that deserves to have its worst of the worst than DTVs... I know you want to trash 'em so here's your chance...

we currently have two films with enough reviews to make it into a Top 5 Worst--Secret of NIMH 2 and Return of Jafar... all of the following are films that just need one or two more reviews to bump into a Top 5 Worst listing... bump any three of these and we'll have our list...

-- Aladdin and the King of Thieves (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Aladdin_and_the_King_of_Thieves/60/)
-- Cinderella II (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Cinderella_II:_Dreams_Come_True/57/)
-- Little Mermaid II (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/The_Little_Mermaid_II:_Return_to_the_Sea/148/)
-- Pocahontas II (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Pocahontas_II:_Journey_to_a_New_World/195/)
-- Atlantis: Milo's Return (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Atlantis:_Milo%27s_Return/255/)

(Hmm... me'thinks I see a trend here... all Disney sequels... lookie at that... (http://animation/The_Little_Mermaid_II:_Return_to_the_Sea/148/))

So yes, go ahead... do your worst... or, if there is a another Top 5 Worst contender that deserves to be on the DTV's should-be-avoided-at-all-costs list, let me know.

I'd love to bash a lot of them, but I never wasted my time watching them and the ones I have I already bashed. XD

I used to watch them all, although I haven't kept up of late... tooooo many. I'm noticing the more recent ones are scoring better in star-ranking than these early ones.

I will say that sometimes those old DTVs provided interesting perks though... I rented Cinderella II at the time it was released and discovered a first teaser trailer for 'Lilo and Stitch' on it. I grabbed a few screen caps, put them on Keyframe and didn't think much of it... a few days later, someone forwarded the image gallery to Ain't it Cool News and they linked to it--apparently no one else had decided to go through the pain of watching Cinderella II to post the Lilo and Stitch pictures... that *one* link damn near brought the site to its knees... an absolutely massive spike in traffic to the point that I was going to have to buy extra bandwidth because we'd eaten through our month's supply in a matter of days.

Ahh, crazy times... :D

Is there any other profile besides Secret of Nimh 2 that got complete one star reviews across the board? What a glorious site. *snickers* Not even The Black Cauldron got that.

It's ironic how one of the best animated movies of all time inspired one of the worst sequels.

I don't know if 'inspired' is the right word - unless 'Citizen Kane' could be said to have inspired 'Ernest Goes to Camp', because that's about as much as NIMH I and II have in common AFAIC.

I notice Totally Spies is close to becoming the second (after Pokemon) show eligable for the bottom 5 TV series.

There was a sequel to the book Mrs Fribsy and the Rats of N.I.M.H. it was written by the original's author's daughter and is, in its own little way, okay, not as deep as the original mind you. The film, however, bares no relation to it whatsoever. Of course there was no way that MGM could follow the plot of the second book, owning to the fact that (in the books) Nicodemus and Jenny are both alive and well. The only thing left of the second's book's storyline is the fact that Timothy does go to Thorn Valley.

Hmm.. NIMH2 is the only one with that many reviews that maintains its 1 star rating... after that there are only those with two reviews that keep that low a star rating...

-- Scooby Doo Goes Hollywood (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Scooby_Doo_Goes_Hollywood/465/)
-- The Smurfs (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/The_Smurfs/331/)
-- He-Man (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/He-Man_and_the_Masters_of_the_Universe/486/)

The last two I'm kinda surprised at... I should probably go write a review or two.

Stuart Little 3 looks pretty awful. I haven't seen it but the animation in the trailer is some of the worst I've seen in a while.

I really need to go out and review some of these just so we can get our Top 5 Worst DTV... I think seeing Secret of NIMH 2 crowned supreme in its vileness would be worth it. ;)

I've attached the current output for bad DTVs... and incidently, if anyone is curious about any of the other lists that have no output on the Top 5 page at the moment because of not enough reviews, just let me know. It's much easier now to generate these lists now.

How do you feel about keeping the minimum 5 reviews for top 5, but accepting minimum 3 reviews for bottom 5? Just an idea.

I suspect bad movies tend not to be reviewed often as ones that rate well. I think it's going to take a while to build up a bottom 5 theatrical shorts, too. Partly because there are so many out there, the temptation is just to profile the really good ones in the first place. And then what are the chances of someone having seen one of the bad ones anyway? There's not that many people wandering about who've seen the good Popeye shorts, let alone the bad Molly Moo Cow ones.

True... it'll require some further tweaking of the Top 5 system. It's getting to be some rather ugly code to implement this varying degree of review business.

So basically any one that has currently achieved a bottom 5 we'll leave where they are with a 5 review minimum, but any that haven't we'll reduce to 3 reviews?

I'm not sure if it's worth tinkering with the top 5s just for that one DTV list; most of the movies that can be bumped are on my to-buy list anyway (what can I say, I'm a completist...)

Well, when you get enough reviews to have a bottom 5 based on 5 votes you can always change it back again. *shrug*

Well, while we're talking about lowering minimum reviews to fill out the top 5s, does anyone think it's worth lowering the minimum for part live action to 2? I know it's a tiny amount, but it's a tiny section, and doesn't look like it'll grow any time soon...

Oh dear, now I know what it means when you start a 'slippery slope', having suggested 3 as a temporary minimum for some categories.

Actually, to be honest I don't have an emphatic problem with 2. You have to callibrate the minimum number of votes required, with the number of votes epccted. 2 isn't all that meaningful, but it's also not meaningless.

To use a cricketing term, I'll let that one go through to the keeper. I don't have a firm opinion on it. The point is we're drawig arbitrary lines. It's just a matter of where they're drawn.

BTW the part-live section still has quite a bit of material in the Betty Boop and Disney 'Alice' shorts, as well as some more Svankmajers, that I can think of. Though we could be waiting a year for someone to review them.

No, I think 2 is definitely too low. It would make those lists extremely volatile...

Besides, it doesn't really need it... check the Top 5 monitor on the admin site and you'll see that either a moderately positive review for Rocky & Bullwinkle or one more review of The Flat will create a Top 5 Best list... and we're still too far away from a Top 5 Worst in that category for dropping the review limit to have any real impact.
