I've been meaning to add this profile for ages but honestly as many times as I've flipped channels and found this show on YTV, I still can't figure what it's about... other than uh, weird monster creatures fighting in the sky with DragonBall guy and his cohorts.
Don't suppose anyone could help me clear up my confusion? And possibly give me a nice, concise synopsis for the show...?

There's really no point to this reply...I just had to say that I sympathize completely. Dragonball Z never made a lick of sense to me. (Then again, that might be because I avoid it almost as religiously as Yugi-Oh)

Yugi-Oh has got to be the brainchild of some sick marketing genius. Characters standing around playing a card game for the entire show? Essentially spending the entire show teaching kids how to play the Yugi-Oh game--which, of course, they can go out and buy. Granted the character designs are sometimes not too bad, but still wow... talk about trying to suck the dollars out of our kids. :ppbb:
I mean, animation has been used to sell stuff to kids for ages... but at least He-Man had a plot.

I used to a DBZ nut. Then I realized how repetitive and mindless it really was.

Ahh, but identifying drivel is part of the service we provide. ;)
The seed of inspiration for this website actually came from me sitting in a video store once many years ago, watching this mother with her two kids try to pick a video. The harried mother quickly scanned the shelves and then quickly shoved "Quest for Camelot" in their hands... with a 'You haven't seen this one yet'... anyone who has read my review (http://keyframeonline.com/OneReview/Quest_for_Camelot/173/1/) on the film can imagine the sheer horror I felt in that instant. I'm sure we would all agree that all animation is not created equal... all animation is not 'Disney'--how many times have I heard "Balto" referred to as 'that Disney film'--and even not all 'Disney' is good--at least not anymore... so that's kinda why Keyframe is here... to call it like it is... the good, the bad and the really, REALLY ugly.

I've seen very little of the series, but apparently the Japanese version had much less card palying; 4kids just squeezed most of the, er, plot out. I've read the first volume of the comic and - while it's pretty blatent wish-fulfillment fantasy - there isn't a single card in sight...

You think Yugioh is bad? Yugioh GX makes my brain hurt.

YAY for me not having to figure out what the heck is going on in that show! Thank ye gods!!
Also, bonus points for adding Pokemon... 800 episodes?! yikes.

No, these guys have been very busy... out of the 33 profiles added since last Saturday, I can only take credit for two... the rest were added by Starlac, Magnus and Toonboy.

I was being sarcastic. i.e. 'some monsters come out of the sky and do bla bla bla' seemed as deep an analysis as the show deserves.

Darn, I could have written a good summary for it . . .
*sigh* I feel like people hate this show . . . (and a slew of others like Pokemon, Sailor Moon, and the like)

Pokemon now has 5 reviews and a 2-star average... I'm guessing it's the first bottom-5 qualifying TV series?

It would be if there was enough competition. The system won't trigger unless there's 5 entries with a low rating.
Just checking the database... other possible contenders (if they had more reviews) might be:
Dragon Ball Z
Aeon Flux
The Smurfs
Sealab 2021
Yogi's Treasure Hunt
He-Man
Voltron
Gigantor
I did notice that The Simpsons has now entered the Series Top 5 at #2.

I think I've realized what Dragonball Z is trying to be like. The spaghetti western. A lot of barren environments. A lot of posturing and camera pans across the eyes. Two powerful characters staring each other down for long stretches.
Of course that's where the similarities end when everything starts blowing up. I watched an episode yesterday, and it took Freiza almost the whole episode just to transform. The heroes could've flown to the other side of the planet by then or at least tried to ambush him. But instead they just stood there gawking for an entire episode. XD

Somehow or another I've never seen DBZ, but when I first saw Trigun my initial reaction was "hmm, this is what a Sergio Leone movie would be like, if Leone could only afford a cast of cardboard cutouts".
