View Full Version : World's worst TV animation block?

I don't think I need to point out to anyone here that TV blocks dedicated to or emphasising animation have often been mixed bags, so does anyone have any horror stories of the most ineptly put-together (from an aesthetic viewpoint - doubtless many of these scheduling decisions show business sense if nothing else) cartoon blocks?

My vote - ITV's Toonattik, on weekend mornings. I mean, look at this stuff:

(the site plays a tune on load-up, for those of you who want to keep quiet)

Okay, sure, Avatar (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender/495/) and Spongebob (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/SpongeBob_SquarePants/326/), that's fine by me. Oban Star-Racers isn't bad either. But... three episodes of Yin Yang Yo? And Power Rangers? I'm not sure if that even needs to be on TV at all, let alone in an animation block.

That's just the current line-up. At other points in time the block's shown such quality fare as American Dragon: Jake Long (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/American_Dragon:_Jake_Long/542/), Winx Club (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Winx_Club/653/), Bratz and Biker Mice from Mars. Yowch.

My award for oddest line-up, meanwhile, has to go to Channel 4's wildly inconsistent kids' block, which has shown everything from the 60s Spider-man (http://keyframeonline.com/Animation/Spider_Man/466/) to a Yuri Norstein marathon.

Cartoon Network's new "Fridays" has got to be one of the worst blocks I've seen in a while. Only thing worth watching is Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

"Adult" (more like, "immature 14 year olds on drugs") Swim is horrible too. Nothing worth watching on there except for Futurama and occasionally Robot Chicken and Harvey Birdman have something to offer... although Robot Chicken is WAY too crude and immature for my tastes even though it has some good animation.

It's pretty much a desert on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon right now -- not much to watch on either channel (just reruns of stuff that I've seen over and over again).

Cowboy Bebop (TV series) is supposed to return to Adult Swim in mid May (according to Wikipedia). I just finished watching it on DVD so I'm not interested in seeing it in a censured form.

I guess that I just have to wait for the 3d season of the Avatar: Last Airbender to come out later this year and hope that the Venture Brothers has a 3d season.
