I put the DIC and the Nelvana versions of The Care Bears TV series together because I thought there wasn't enough justification to enter them seperately.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

They all look the same to me. Unfortunately all I can remember, besides the movies, are when they came back as modern remakes to sell the new toys, so I'm afraid of doing a proper review. I don't know if this profile includes them, whether there are any dvds of the original, or if it's just the direct to video movies of the remake.

modern remakes to sell the new toys

The remakes I know off are: Care Bears: Forever Friends, and the CGI films: Journey to Joke-a-Lot and Big Wish Movie. Those were all DTV releases and all released recently.

There were also two specials made for TV before the series and films. The Care Bears battle the Freeze Machine and The Land without Feelings.

None of these have much to do with this profile, as they were either made by a different company or have many years seperating them, in the case of the DTV's about twenty years.

The profile is concerned with the two series that came out roughly at the same as the Feature Films.

The profile is concerned with the two series that came out roughly at the same as the Feature Films.

This gets really tricky... on one hand I don't want to do profiles for every permutation of a series--particularly those whose permutations were essentially a marketing ploy... but at the same time, some of these series divisions marked major changes in the show... and, more importantly to my thinking anyways, in who was involved in the production of the show.

Like I remember thinking about profiling Scooby Doo... but it seems like there have been so many Scooby Doo series with so many different slants... where do you make the divisions for something like that?

I used to think it would be funny if someone released a series called "The Who cares Bears?, where the characters are all sociopaths. This was before people actually did start releasing series like that.

Well there's always the Happy Tree Friends. XD

God, I hate that show. I mean, my sense of humour is bad enough, but Happy Tree Friends is for people who laugh at car accidents. I think I meant 'sociopaths' more in the line of Master Shake from ATHF.

There was a toyline around in the 90s called Werebears; it was basically to Carebears what Garbage Pail Kids was to Cabbage Patch Kids.

It had a comic, don't know if there was ever a cartoon series.

I have no idea if i'm digging up an ancient thread, but i ran into this page on google exclusively and wanted to answer the question (and i'll prolly never be back).

The series that you should rate are all nelvana limited episodes pre-1990s. the following movies and episodes should be reviewed:

The Care Bears Movie **
The Care Bears Movie 2 **
Care Bears Adventures in Wonderland
The Care Bears Family Storybook (Season 1 was a bit better than 2)
Care Bears Nutcracker Suite (last 3 episodes made, but the DVD is sold as a movie)

look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Care_Bears for an episode reference guide for the nelvana suite. It's the one with ~70+ episodes.

Another clue is the show had the same/similar opening as this:

For informational purposes, here's the trailer for the first movie:

Well, there's my 2 cents.

**Movie 1 and Movie 2 do not have continuous storylines. Best way to resolve the cognitive dissonance experienced when going from 1 to 2 is to figure nicolas cherrywood in the first is using a 'creative license' and is modifying the story a little. All else post Movie 2 is 99.7% continuous.

Well this thread was talking about the two different TV series, the first by DiC and the second by Nelvana (The Care Bear Family/Storybook/etc) and whether their should be listed separately; because they’re currently under the same profile (http://www.keyframeonline.com/Animation/The_Care_Bears/570/), it wasn’t really about the various films.

FTR: Both The Care Bears Movie (http://www.keyframeonline.com/Animation/The_Care_Bears_Movie/281/)and the sequel Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation (http://www.keyframeonline.com/Animation/Care_Bears_Movie_II:_A_New_Generation/558/) are accounted for on the website, I’ve also wrote reviews for both.

Wonderland is on my list of profiles to add, along with many other non care bear cartoons. Not too sure about Nutcracker, as it was originally part of Nelvana's series

EDIT: I'm still wondering about splitting these two profiles though.

Turns out that apparently there were Who Cares Bears (http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=2560598&postcount=11).
