Now that this is getting an English release (I wonder how they got over the John Denver legal thing, which is absolutely critical to the film), I'll be interested to see whether anybody else agrees with me that this is Ghibli's best movie (the only other one I haven't seen is 'Ocean Waves').
It's not epic or supernatural or environmental like Miyazaki's, or heavy and intense like 'Grave of the Fireflies', or frivolous and silly like 'The Cat Returns', or whatever you'd call Pom Poko - it's more like... just the most sublime, understated, poignant anime you've ever seen. I'm not kidding, I just felt like applauding after this film finished. You must see it.
