I just saw this guy in person today (creator of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo). He came to Detroit and had a two-hour presentation with clips from Bebop and Champloo, followed by questions from some professors sitting next to him, followed by questions from the audience. Unfortunately the line was so long that they didn't get to my question...:(
He was actually kind of funny. For example, he said something along the lines of, "When working on my pieces I rarely get the chance to watch them start to finish. It was nice to watch [Samurai Champloo Episode 1] on the big screen...if I may be so humble, it was pretty good!" Also: "I don't make a ton of money from these productions. If I made that much money, I wouldn't be making films, I'd go south and live on an island somewhere!"
That was fun. I only wish there weren't so many disrespectful people in the audience, talking out loud while he was speaking or criticizing each other's questions to him (the latter being your standard teenage I'm-an-anime-professional who was, sadly, standing behind me in line and trying to get me to agree with his obnoxious retorts).
