After months of sculpting and refining and about 5 different models and countless textures, here it is...

Looks cool, G.D.! Gonna animate it? :)

Yeah, I'm going to make a movie with 6 speaking dragons and about 50 extra dragons, so I'm going to need a more powerful computer to handle the rendering, or maybe a rendering farm. It isn't finished, I still have to do some more texturing, and I have to do the mouth and throat before I can start rigging.

Thanks. Have you ever done CGI?

Only a little bit. Modelling was a bit too frustrating and complicated for me.

What software? I use 3ds Max. Pretty user-friendly.

3DS Max is hellishly expensive, and not available on Macintosh, I think.
I started out with...um....Ray-something. Can't remember the name. From the people who made Poser and Bryce n stuff. Then I got Pixels 3D, which was easier to use, but I didn't use it much anyway. Finally, recently, I tried out CBModel Pro, which is super-easy, but my computer wasn't really fully up to processor requirements.
In any case, I don't really have much I want to do in 3D anymore, now that the mystique has worn off. Bryce is enough to occasionally set up scenes for me, when I want it.
Anyway, I find it fun to putter with 3D occasionally, but 2D is where I live.

Yeah, I was lucky. I got Max for free!
You can get Max 8 for only around 100 bucks, and as soon as Max 10 comes out, 9 will be that price.
I love making dragon models. I've done, like, 10 models that you haven't seen.

3DS Max, at least the commercial license, costs thousands of dollars...just out of curiosity, where did you find Max 8 for $100?
Anyway I use 3DS Max too, for my 3D stuff. It's such a powerful program! I disagree that it's user-friendly; I've lost a lot of hair over that program. But Max and I have a love-hate relationship. And now that Autodesk bought out Maya, maybe they'll combine Max and Maya into something new that can run on Macintosh...*crosses fingers*
Anyway that dragon model looks pretty cool! Congrats on all the work you've done so far...I bet the final product will be a sight to see!

My dad is a computer guru and 3ds Max 8 is now considered and "older version" of Max. If you do enough digging, you can find almost any program for 100 or less. I would recommend newegg.com. Good deals.
Well, in the user friendly part, I'm only twelve years old - look at my creation! On the other hand, I've been using Max around three years now.
