This is more like it. An actual short that made me laugh.

Whilst there wasnt much banter between Porky and Daffy this was still enjoyable with Porky trying to escape from the looney duck whilst he is trying to get his protege hired.I liked the lollipop gag.

The ending was bad though with the little duck singing in a deep voice.

It a strange premise to be sure, for starters Daffy the agent really should be promoting himself as he’s clearly more talented than his lollipop sucking protégé; who for the most part just sucks his lollipop and holds up signs reading screwball etc.

Poor Porky just sits there mostly, desperate to get away from this obvious lunatic of a duck and get on his vacation plane, but he doesn’t have a say in the matter, or a nearby shotgun handy. In retrospect you can see where this was heading, eventually Porky would be the casual observer and commentator to Daffy’s sheer ineptitude.

It’s fun, manic, with enough happening to keep you amused for its duration, yet its not got that extra something to boost it any further up the ratings. the ending is an anticlimax, but that is the point of Daffy’s excesses. It all directed towards Daffy and Porky basically is left with nothing to do, not even commentary.

To answer Lupacal's question, the movie Yankee Doodle Dandy was released in '42, and the cartoon was named after it.

It's quite entertaining to see Daffy go into one wild performance after another, as the hapless Porky tries to escape casting him. But it's really more of a musical revue than an actual story, and while the Carmen Miranda imitation is always good for a grin, it's not one of Looney Tunes' most memorable shorts.

Considering this film has nothing to do with the Civil War, or patriotism of any sort, why is it called 'Yankee Doodle Daffy'? Because it was made in 1943. That's about the only reason they needed. America was at war, and this resulted in such memorable films as 'Yankee Doodle Refrigerator', 'Yankee Doodle Charles Darwin' and 'Yankee Doodle Small Bump in the Road'.

Seriously though, for those who like seeing Bugs and Daffy in drag (something which they were oddly inclined towards - especially Bugs), this is a considerably better short than, let's say, 'Waikiki Wabbit'. At least it has a plot that's original and doesn't involve hunting.

Daffy is the 'agent' of a child prodigy, and desperetaely tries to convince Porky to sign him. Porky is more interested in going on vacation. In desperation Daffy personally demonstrates all the things the apparently inert kid can do, including his Carmen Miranda routine, as seen in the profile picture.

Pretty funny. Only just makes three stars from me, but it's not too bad at all. It's nearly all set in one room, so Freleng doesn't perhaps get to stretch his legs, but then again Jones's legs ended up being longer anyway.
