An awesome fantasy series (my favorite genre) about a group of teenage fairies and their adventures in Magix and in their Fairy School Alfea (I'm into fairies,witches,etc.). I'd first watched it when it premiere on North American TV (I'm from Canada) and after that, I love it; but I was shocked, surprised and flabbergasted by the negativity I heard on Keyframe (I mean it's all the matter of point of view you know); and I would like to point out that this show is my first glimpse at Italian animation (This show was made in Italy). My favorite Winx girls are:

·Bloom : Fairy of The Dragon Fire,
·Princess Stella : Fairy of The Sun & Moon,
·Tecna : Fairy of Technology (love her accent) and..
·Princess Layla : Fairy of Water/Fluids

Winx Club has become my number one guilty pleasure. Sure the dialogue can be corny (remember, it's dubbed by 4Kids). Sure the fact that the girls have such near-perfect relationships with their boyfriends and each other is unrealistic. And who in their right mind would don such a revealing outfit, and freakishly high heels to go fight evil monsters? But you know what? It's a *children's cartoon*! They don't care about the fact that the characters look like they were built on an assembly line; they want to be entertained.
I for one think the animation is terrific and lively, and it's also what sparked my interest in the series. It definitely has an Italian designer clothing look to it, and is a refreshing change from the typical North American animation and anime we're so used to seeing, nowadays.
A lot of people give this show flack for appearing to be so fixated on fashion and having a boyfriend, claiming that it reinforces the negative female stereotypes that all girls live for shopping and keeping up with the latest fashion trends, and that when not attached to a boy, they should be wanting to be attached to one.
However, a closer look at the show reveals its promotion of female independence (through Layla, the ballsy-but-sexy tomboy of the group), and strong friendships. Also, Tecna, although the most underappreciated character, is also one of the best role models in the series (and I'm not just saying that because she's my favourite character): in an age where girls are encouraged to dumb themselves down in order to gain acceptance, Tec shows young girls that being intelligent doesn't make you an ugly, uncool outcast. You can be smart AND sexy.
In spite of the fact that Bloom's friends haven't done much more than move episodes along (hopefully, that'll change in season 3), and the fact that it can be a little sugary sweet at times, it's a pretty spiffy little cartoon. Obviously there's something about it that appeals to a global audience, as its shown all over the world. I'm gonna give it an extra half star for being just too cute. :)

Question: What's a cartoon where you can determine who the bad guys are by the ones who wear too much eye shadow? Answer: Winx Club. That's all there is too say about this show other than that it contains some of the crappiest animation I've ever seen short of the stuff from the 70s. The writing is lame. The characters are perfect Barbie figures. The lips seem to only have two positions in speaking. There's really no reason to see a cartoon like this. None of 4Kids stuff is any good, but everything else is better by comparison.

This is one of those series that surprises me because it finds a way to work on so many levels.

For the most part, the characters are nicely done and well developed though I have to take points off of Musa for her frequent bad use of slang and Stella for her overly teen-emo factor. I give extra points to Layla for being one of the better Winx girls (besides my girl, Flora).

Season One of Winx Club, while catchy, doesn't have a story that just comes out and grabs you right away. It starts off with Bloom discovering her powers and going to Alfea School for Fairies to learn to develop her powers all the while trying to battle three Senior Witches from Cloud Tower School for Witches from trying to steal her powers. It comes together later on in the series.

Season Two on the other hand, has the better storyline and better develops the characters more. Layla is introduced, along with Pixies, a small magical race that bond with the fairies.

Dialog has to take a few points off but not too many. Some of the dialog is annoying at times (considering most of 4Kids actors aren't that good to begin with), but it can be easily overlooked. Season Two has the better dialog than Season One.

One series that I definately recommend be watched. I know not everyone is gonna like it, but thre will be those of you that will.
