I like animal shows, and despite never seeing the original movie from which it's based, I rather enjoyed the feel of this Winter Special.

It took a couple of watches to understand some of the script, but the main story was pretty basic. It is Wintertime for the rabbits on Watership Down, and apparently, it is Frith's Eve, a celebration and a feast that the rabbits have. However, food is scarce and with invited guests from all around, there's not enough for all. So, food must be found, but when a group gets lost and things don't look so good, they have to trust a new group of rabbits that is dependent on Man!

Oh noes, we know where this is leading to, right?

But without spoiling much, I enjoyed it. The music seemed too theatrical for a TV series (and actually, this special makes be wish the Watership Down series was available in the US!) and the animation wasn't too bad, but it evened out pretty well.

It's worth at least a couple of watches if you haven't seen the movie (I know it's a violent one, so this is more kid-friendly IMO) or the TV series, but maybe a once or twice viewing if you are familiar to the characters and story of WD. Yes, I have heard of the gender changes and other things, but if you're like me and not familiar to the original movie, it shouldn't bother you much.

I got this as part of my watership Down box set I got last Christmas. Even though I dont see the relanvence of this episode to the series its still an enjoyble romp on its own merit. Though I dont know why rabbits are celebrating a holiday in Winter.

The voices though adequite are still poor they even made undersized Pipkin a bratty kid in this series and Blackberry a doe.

The animation is good though not as good as the film.

The music is fine with a instrumental version of thank you stars the only song featured in this series.

Finally to conclude I would say this is worth watching but big Watership Down fans might be disapointed.
