It' a good movie But sometime songs are annoying like practice practice....
It to short to and the colors are to baad...
Odette sometimes is well_looking and sometimes her neck have a strange do?!
FAR LONGER THAN FOREVER is a sweet song so well sing!!I like the part when they singing:will been told we someday wed...every june until september...
and the part when the hag appear in the bal..but it a short part put more SUSPENSE PLEASE!i like the black dress it had more personnality than odette's flowy ones...odette voice is gorgeous in talking and singing and is because she's strong and more intelligent than derek(what else is ther?helllooooo?)it a blooper necessery for the movie but is still on .I can say how sadly underappreciated this movie is, maybe because is not a disney production, but the movie is nice because of his fairytale side. The swan princess is not a classic but it could has been if the story was not so short ,if they has cut some stupids songs, if the colors were more lightful. It as been a flop in movies and is so overlooked that i can say that only a few people know that movie, to prove it is difficult to rent it in some video club ,because there's no even one copy!It has some magic indeed, some charm ,but stupids parts come to destroy everything, like jean bob ,puffin ,speed dont stand out, they 're so annoying and we see them to much actually.A great movie for girls.

I haven't seen this film in a long time and I just watched it for the first time in years. Still has the same Disney-like magical feel to it.
Films like these aren't made anymore and there's no "magic" to them so knowing me (which I hope I do), I loved it all over again. The music mumbers were excellent and I put on the captions to sing along(more of lipsynching). I know I'm 16 but what can I say? I'm a child at heart-- unlike other teens who sound so old!
I like how they incorporate the lesson that love doesn't revolve around looks.

Wow, I'm surprised I even remember this movie!

A beautifully told tale based on the ballet "Swan Lake", The Swan Princess is a different type of story of two young lovers (a handsome, almost perfect prince and an elegant princess, pretty and witty) mixed with a cast of many characters (none that really stand out much, but get a few chuckles).

The obvious ending is predictable if you know what happens in the ballet, but it's has a Disney type of feel to it. The drama and suspense, probably enough for little girls and anyone looking for a sweet happy ending.

Overall: the animation is fluid and colorful, the songs are okay but not great, and the whole film just has a good-old happy feel to it.

Rating: 3 stars. Check it out! I think it's actually much better than the Barbie version of Swan Lake.

*strain* It's no good. I can't think like a 12 year-old girl. On the other hand I don't suppose female reviewers of the movie will be able to think like a guy, either.

Ok, I'd watched 'Sleeping Beauty' the week before this, so to be honest I was pretty Princessed-out. As you might have gathered I'm not a huge fan of fairy-tale Princess movies at the best of times. I believe I enjoyed this one a little more than 'Sleeping Beauty', though I suspect mostly because it was less conscopicuously old-fashioned in style.

'Swan Princess', while very different from 'Sleeping Beauty' in most respects, does share one major problem with that film. It's two central characters are as boring as dirt. Another square-jawed, characterless jock for a Prince. Another beautiful, wilfull but ultimately characterless blonde as a Pricess. Honestly, she was more cute as a swan. In fact the segments with the turtle, frog, puffin and swan together were the most fun in the film (even if, once I figured out that John Cleese was voicing the frog, I kept thinking back to 'Holy Grail' and hoping he'd say "Of course I'm French! Why do you think I have this outrageous accent?")

The animation is decent for the most part, though in the scene where Odette and Derrick (or whatever his name is) kiss for the first time the animation jiggle against the background. This may be an example of the outlines changing width as noted by Athena in her review of Rich Animation's other feature film).

There are some nice scenes with pleasing backgrounds. There are a lot of really tedious songs, which are well below par even for a minor animated film. The incidental characters (other than the animal trio) vary from boring to ok, the best probably being the Prince's father, who looks and sounds well above average.

All the same though, this one seemed to me to be in the same category as a few other 90's efforts from minor players. It was ok, but there was nothing classic about it, and nothing to keep an adult interested. It's presumably aimed at young girls, and it's hard to recommend it for any other group.

The DVD copy I viewed also contained quite a lot of general dirt and imperfections which I assume must have been on the original masters. Cleaning it up digitally wouldn't have done it any harm.

A very good movie, which comes close in quality to the better of the Disney fairytale-princess genre. The characters are likeable, the plot interesting, and there's a fair amount of humor.

Criticisms include some pretty bad songs, an unimpressive villain, and a bit too much of the sidekicks, both in quantity and action.

Whatever that unknown magic element is that makes a great movie, I think this film has it in abundance. A story that is a delightful mixture of humour and action--such as the scenes with Jean-Bob, the frog who thinks he's a prince, which are priceless. The entire cast is great and just fun to watch. I also liked the musical sequence showing Prince Derek and Princess Odette growing up hating each other as children but then falling in love inspite of it.

One element that is cleverly woven into the story is the idea that love isn't about the way we look. It's a valuable point but the amazing thing is that the story doesn't try to hammer it home, it is simply subtly dropped every so often... Derek telling Odette he wants to marry her because she's beautiful and Odette wisely asking, "What else?"... the beauty pagent Derek's mother sets up in the hopes that he will pick a bride... Rothbart making his hag side-kick look like Odette to get Derek to proclaim his undying love for the wrong girl while the audience wonders will Derek see through the facade... It wasn't until after I finished watching the movie that I realized how delicately I had been lead--a trick definately worth extra storytelling points.
