The Rugrats' first movie is a disappointing outing that was followed by two increasingly better sequels. Well okay. One and a half sequels. Television cartoons rarely make good theatrical releases, and Rugrats seems like the least likely show for movie material. The overall plot and pacing of the story is slow and utterly boring. It consists of very little but episodic adventures for the tots blanketed by an overly broad and heavy-handed story and message about having "sponsitility" and taking care of younger siblings. The joyless songs and disgusting "pee pee" sequence only add to the misery.
