I just checked, and this film isn't available in Australia, so this review is going to have to be based on a memory of seeing it on TV when I was a kid. That may be a bit irresponsible, but the alternative is to import a region 1 copy, which of course I would never, never, never do, because this whole region business is so totally sensible and I'm sure the movie companies know what's best for us.
*ahem* Ok, 'The Point' is, as best I can recall, a very quirky and rather charming little fantasy tale probably written by someone who had ingested a lot of chemicals. There is a pointy dog, and there is this scene that always stuck in my head for some reason, where the little kid is bouncing up and down with these several fat, naked women. I wish I could remember why, but I have a feeling there was no particular reason, other than he was wandering around and ran into them.
Harry Nillson wrote the songs, and my shakey memory tells me they were pretty good. It has a real early 70's feel to it. It's a time-warp. Don't expect to be dazzled by the animation: it's more Sesame Street than Finding Nemo.
I remember enjoying this a lot as a kid, and my heart wants to give it 3, but I've learned not to trust childhood memories too implicity, so, until I get another look at it, two and a half...
