I can't understand the poor ratings that are always attached to Don Bluth movies that I consider excellent, such as this, or Thumbelina, or Rock a Doodle. In this movie I have always found cute characters, lovely music, and humor.

After Don Bluth's initial successes(The Secret on Nimh, The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and An American Tail), he started releasing a string of unbelievably horrid movies, only getting back to partial form with Titan A.E. This is one of those bad movies. There's really not much to say about this film. The characters are uninteresting, especially the laughable villain. The narrative is practically non-existent. It's nothing we haven't seen before. Shy loser gets beaten by the bad guy who wants his girl. Loser goes on an adventure with some tough guy with a soft heart. Loser comes back and learns how to beat the bady and isn't a loser anymore. If the boring scenes and plotting doesn't put you to sleep, the horrible songs will make you throw up. Perhaps the biggest insult is the suggestion that penguins can fly if said penguin believes hard enough. I'm all for magic in an animated movie, but come on. This really served no purpose. Not the worst animated movie ever, but please. By all means avoid this movie.
