I like this little animated feature very much. Recently I traded for a 16mm print of Magic Pony, the 1977 version with the voice of Jim Bacus as the king. I understand, back in 1941, the USSR wanted an animated feature to compete with Disney's product. First, the same animation quality is not evident in Magic Pony. Secondly, the color is not as rich as a Disney film (looks a bit like Cinecolor). Also, the voice dubs are not nearly close enough. Kids however, like to see this movie on the big screen.

well, I'm not sure if the movie I saw was the same as this one.. this part of a series called Stories from My Childhood, which had Ivan and His Magic pony as the title. the story sounds the same as described here.and it was supposedly made in '47. but the voices have been re-dubbed and it sounds kinda weird . but it's a good movie if you like horses. up there with Spirit anyway..

the Czar though looks like Popeye's dad..hmm.. and Ivan himself is a little too happy. but the Pony is a good character though.

Edit: I guess it must've been the T.V version I saw , oh well.. still a good movie though.
