I was shocked and suprised by the negative reviews I saw on the web, I thought "The Little Mermaid II" is a very cute and funny sequel for everyone - kids and adults (like me),and I still love the original film; and I also love Melody Ariel and Eric's little girl, she's cute as a button and I like that headstrong, rebellious spirit in Melody (like mother, like daughter huh!).

I have notice that the sort-of prologue sequence, (the begining) is like the Sleeping Beauty,Everyone - land and sea was invited to little Melody's presentation, until someone wicked (Morgana) intruded in on the clebration;only there's no sleeping curse. So over all I think this film is artistically and story-wise true to the original film, and should other great Disney sequels like The Lion King II and Bambi II.

I thought this was going to be a good DTV. I thought it looked promising, based on the trailer. The animation was quite nice, and I thought Melody was cute as a button.
It was disappointing, to say the least. The songs are godawful, Melody gets annoying after a while, Morgana is not at all intimidating, and Tip and Dash are probably the two most useless and boring sidekicks in animated movie history. The two of them are basically an Antarctic version of Timon and Pumbaa.
Not one of Disney's better DTVs.

Bad is one word that would sum this movie up nicely. I give it one and a half stars only because the animation was ok.
As far as the story goes, it's very predictable. The hero/heroine has a kid, that kid is strongwilled like the parent, the kid runs away and gets into trouble. The kid finds out who he/she is yadda yadda yadda. Something most have seen ten times over. The new characters are flat and the old ones have been changed enough that it was irritating. The songs are also bad; they get pretty annoying. This movie is ok for little kids, but is boring for anyone older than ten.

I was mostly disappointed by this sequel, probably like most other animation fans. The new characters, like Tip and Dash, were quite pathetic IMO. The only thing that I liked was the fact that Ariel maintained her original voice, thanks to Jodi Benson. It's sad that the typical "sequel-with-main-character-offspring" plotline was here. I mean, Ariel was as protective as her father was to her in the original classic. Shoot, she had a good reason, but couldn't she at least tell her daughter the truth about the whole mermaid thing? I think almost everyone else knew and respected that with Ariel. Why not with the little halfling, Melody?
Continuing on: The animation was pretty stunning, but could have been better. It's better than most of the recent DTV sequels that Disney has made!
The songs were not that interesting. Maybe for a young child, but soon they would get annoyed! Ariel's singing was not as good as the original, and that spark helped keep the first movie in its "classic" status. However, the sequel was basically a repeat of what we have seen in similar sequels: Main characters have a kid similar personality to basic main character discovers something secretive and runs away to do own thing ends up helping to save the day. the end!
Boring! Too obvious for a sequel to a classic fairy tale.
But I do like that headstrong, rebellious spirit in Melody (like mother, like daughter!) and in other characters that are created to enter that position!

Enough said. This is perfect if you have little kiddies to entertain, or if you want to entertain some friends by making fun of it (almost like MSTing it, if you know what I mean!).
