'Hydronauts' is a new show, but it feels about 20 years old. Aimed at a younger audience, it concerns the adventures of Neptuna, whose spaceship crashlands in the Baltic Sea while on a survey mission. She meets up with a sealion called Balty, a seagull called Ponto, who for some reason is in a wheelchair (I didn't see the first episode, so I don't know if this is because of something which happens in the show or not), and an octopus whose name I don't remember. The episodes have a strong ecological theme, as the crew explore the marine life of earth and get involved in educational adventures highlighting conservation themes. There is a little live 'documentary' type footage pertaining to the episode's theme, inserted usually near the end.
It's by no means a bad show, but it's certainly nothing special, and there is much better fare around for younger audiences now. Still, it won't rot anyone's brain, and they're not trying to sell you any transforming toys. I can imagine the characters growing on little kids (I should probably rephrase that - it's a rather bizarre image, but you know what I mean), but I doubt this is going to set the world on fire.
Fair.
