The Chipmunk Adventure is a cute and harmless film, with some enjoyable pop tunes and a few really funny moments. It should entertain kids handily while not forcing adults to strangle themselves out of boredom. It's a basic round-the-world junket with excuses to stop and sing from time to time. Action and dance prevent the song sequences from becoming tedious. The smuggling plot attempts to create some moments of tension when the villains are after the heroes, but there is never the remotest sense of real menace. The criminal ringleaders are mildly interesting, but so dimwitted and laid on so thickly that I tired of them quickly.
The animation is better-quality made-for-TV animation for its time. The human character design and animation is cludgy, but the chipminks soar--and it is, after all, their movie.
