Worth watching for the unusual spectacle of Mickey Mouse losing his temper with Donald Duck, and Donald just laughing and shrugging it off! (though he would blow his cool before the end of the short)

This short is remembered largely for being the first colour Mickey Mouse short, and if I'm not wrong Disney still had the monopoly on technicolor in animation at this time (I don't think Fleischer used it for another two years, with the first of their Popeye colour trilogy).

The cartoon looks amazing given its age, with bright colours and great animation, and it's largely for this that it gets 3.5 stars rather than 3. It's pretty heavily gag-ridden, but so what. And these ones work really with in time with the music.

Mickey is conducting an orchestra of barnyard friends (and it must be said he is a rather cantankerous and impatient conductor). Actually the whole thing looks rather like a dress rehearsel for 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' from Fantasia, with Mickey in his long sleeved, flowing conductor's uniform.

Aesthetically the best part of the short is the 'storm' sequence, which involves some truly inventive animation. Again, perhaps a rehearsel for Fantasia, though I suppose you could say the same of a lot of 30's Disney shorts.

This was around the time that other, funnier, more physical characters were rising up to relegate Mickey to straight-man, but he still holds the main focus here, with a lovely range of emotions depicted as he tries to control his ramshackle orchestra (not to mention Donald).

For the time, a major achievement. Nowadays, still impressive.
