When I first saw the trailers for this movie, I was impressed. The character designs looked quite imaginative and the concept was kind of interesting... little kid being picked on by bigger kids turns around and picks on things smaller than himself--the ants. The ants defend themselves by shrinking the kid down to their size and then teach him about what it is to be an ant. It's an interesting concept. I'll even give you that Nicolas Cage does a pretty good job at making Zoc the Wizard Ant (aka the guy doing the shrinking) into an interesting character and certainly one of the most three-dimensional, (no pun intended), in the film.

Unfortunately... the longer you watch this movie, the less these few elements are able to save it from being predictable, unfunny and horribly trite. It was as though the longer I watched, the farther the star-rating plummeted. By the time we reached the "let's pay off and wrap up every single one of these characters in 30 seconds" ending, I was ready to stick a fork in my eye.

In short, this is an interesting-looking movie with an interesting concept and even some interesting characters that is dragged into the toilet by badly conceived story and poorly written script. Watch at your own risk.

My simple opinion for this would be me labeling it as the middle-man of ant movies: better than Antz, not better than a Bug's Life.

As soon as I saw the trailer I knew I was going to like it, since what I think the other ant movies lacked was decent human interaction. I'm quite sure I stepped on plenty of ants in my childhood years, and I do remember my parents lecturing me, saying something like "imagine how you would feel if you were an ant." I'm glad someone finally decided to make an animated movie on that thought.

The story is exactly what a kid's movie needs to be: not dramatic, silly, comical, no excess and unnecessary romance, and there is a series of conflicts that concerns the kid himself, making him learn an effective, good moral by the end. I always start treating ants I see on the ground a bit better after seeing these kinds of movies. (And may I mention that I thought it was quite amusing that the ants here are forbidden from going into the house, something that annoys me about ants in real life.)

I fell in love with the designs, they're way more original and interesting than in the other movies, and they finally did the ant anatomy correctly and efficently, something that bugged me (HAHAHA BUG) about the other movies as well. The characters have likeable, varying personalities to match.

I definetly recommend seeing it if you don't mind the lack of anything to humor the adults. If you got to see it in 3D, that was amazing, and be glad you did.

I really enjoyed this movie, it had a wonderful story! The ants have great character designs (especially the wizard Zoc, he's in the picture for this movie's profile). The way they worked together and look out for each other is remarkable and gives Lucas a eyeful. Most of all, I loved Zoc, he's such a cool ant, he works with magic, and can zap enemies with energy from his staff. And he looks *fascinating* whenever he's angry or whatever reason his eyes are narrowed! If I could only give you one reason to see it, I'd say "See it because of Zoc!" ^_~
