This movie is a series of good ideas that didn't quite make it to fruitation.

GOOD IDEA: Casting Brendan Fraser in the role of Sinbad--he gets all the best lines.

BAD IDEA: Not giving anyone else any good lines.

GOOD IDEA: Taking us to a weird underwater world with cool creatures and wild concepts.

BAD IDEA: Making us suffer through dull, prolonged action sequences and horrible facial animation to get there. Also the characters only seemed to be lip-synced for close up shots--in some long shots, no mouth movement was provided at all when the character speaks.

GOOD IDEA: Some really nicely detailed backgrounds and environments--reminded me a great deal of the video game "Myst"... although this was made a few years ago now and probably wouldn't hold up to the CG expectations we have today.

BAD IDEA: Motion capture--all to often a very bad idea. Everyone is bouncing around like they're in zero gravity. And if you're going to use motion capture at least make sure your facial expressions are as realistic as your bouncing!

Even the story itself seemed like it had the potential for being exciting and interesting if only it had been more carefully executed. There's nothing more irritating than seeing potential that has gone to waste.
