Unlike most other shorts, Satiemania isn't one idea but many. It's not so much a piece with any narrative cohesion or even an abstraction with a single thematic thought as it is more a classical music video ala Fantasia. If you're looking for an emotional outlet, find another short. The sequences run the gamut of different visual styles and emotional flavors as the short plays snippets of Satie's music, but they are ALL strange and either grotesque or erotic. One second you'll see a piece about a boy ripping off a girl's skirt and exposing her underwear, causing her embarrassment. Another second you'll see a piece about a guy innocently playing a piano, which then proceeds to jump up and bite the poor bugger in half. Another second you might see a naked woman rolling around in a soft mattress. People getting shot, beaten, stabbed, run over by cars. . . This is definitely the angriest short I've ever seen in my life. Even so, there's something strangely satisfying about it all.
