posted: Jul 10, 2007 Rated it: | newbie | I tried a hack I was told by a freind to make the thing have zero stars, sadly it didnt work. What can I say about pokemon? It is a tacky, waste of money with poor animation, poor storyline, and two dimensional (not literally) characters. the Villans are jokes and the pokemon themselves, look like theyve stepped out of a cuddly toy store. utterly rubbish. not worth watching. |

posted: Dec 31, 2006 Rated it: | newbie | I am going to go out on a limb here... I honestly don't think this series deserves to be on the top 5 worst series list. I mean, I can understand the low ratings. How popular Pokemon was, I got pretty darn sick of it, and as you can see, so did everyone else. I had to watch this everytime it was on(I have a brother...nuff said) so I watched probably every episode twice. But, didn't complain about it much, because I actually found this show enjoyable, even though I wouldn't say that I really liked it. I still watch it today and think 'Yeah, its not really good, but its not bad and I have seen much much worse' Yes, this series seems like just a show to sell the merchandise, like the cards or the posters, etc.(Gotta catch em' all Gotta catch em all, that really gets a child riled up! They have to get it now!) and this show is extremely repetitive, but I still don't think its that bad. I actually liked the fights between the pokemon in the episodes. It sometimes got creative with that, I thought. Its just the overexposure of a series thats not really great to begin with that really gets to me. Its okay, in my opinion. I can't really recommend it, unless you like the cards, but its not at all the worst thing on television. |

I've unwillingly watched two episodes, and practically fell asleep in the first two minutes. "Ash and the gang are getting ready for the match. It happens. Someone gets hurt. they get better. Hugs. The end". I think they're making most of the money on the card game, but I like the Yu-Ghi-Oh! game better. Don't watch. |

One pokemon fights another pokemon, Team Rocket tries to foil the good guys' plans, but never do. Basically all the show was made for, to me, was to sell merchandise. It's like watching a half hour long commercial. |

"Wow, someone had their marketing hat on when they thought up this one." 150 adorable monsters with a slogan 'Gotta catch 'em all'... sounds like a recipe for some serious merchandising if you ask me. As for the show, the most redeeming quality has to be Pikachu--who is a strong contender for the award for cutest anime critter ever drawn. The rest didn't inspire me... maybe it's the whole concept of making my beloved pets fight one another. The show's pretty safe for kids, although if I were a parent I'd be cautious for the sake of my walletbook, simply because the show does inspire a collect-o-mania Pokemon attitude. |

posted: Feb 14, 2006 Rated it: | KF Animation Editor | I’ve enjoyed the games that this cartoon is based on ever since they came out and while I certainly enjoyed this series for the first couple of years, I never thought it was a great show. Certainly there are much better ones, as well as worse ones. However it’s the fact that while better shows have come, gone and been forgotten, pokémon continues unabated that gets me steamed. The repetition is growing weary and the episode count is on the wrong side of ridiculous, eight hundred episodes and counting! The fact that it shows no sign of stopping any time soon doesn’t do it any favours, and even all but the most avid of fans must have given up long ago. Maybe this show is alright for young children, in the same way that My Little Pony and He-man was in the mid-eighties, but even young children can’t be expected to digest all this stuff. Presently the pokémon rooster stands at three hundred and eighty-six, which strikes me as a little much for a cartoon series to handle, let alone the attention-spans of children. I’ve remembered all of those names thanks to the game, not this series. There is some good in the show, a strong message about the virtues of friendship and teamwork, but it’s nothing which isn’t done by other shows. However the bad, jerky animation, sometimes nearing filmation levels of bad, some slightly dodgy dubbing and topped with characters with barely any character arch (even after travelling so far for so long Ash still comes across as a arrogant know-it-all). Overall though, it’s a show which has more than outlasted its welcome. While the games still have a place in my heart, this show does not. The phrase “Familiarity breeds contempt” comes to mind and this show has certainly bred mine, and although it not as bad as some, it certainly comes a close second.

I mean how many times can Pikachu be captured and rescued. As for Team Rocket they could blast off for good. The first series was good but as time goes on it gets from bad to worse they even if you look closely enough repeat story lines. In my opinon I would stick to the games and skip this. |

posted: Feb 13, 2006 Rated it: | World-Class Animation Critic | Like in the 1980's when alot of american cartoons were made for nothing more then pushing a product, Pokemon was made for the same exact thing. This was just a commercial to promote Pokemon merchandise, I admit I was once addicted to this like I was addicted to DBZ.However,I got older and realized the mediorcy of this show. Skip this one and watch quality anime like Lupin III. |

posted: Feb 13, 2006 Rated it: | World-Class Animation Critic | Yes, I too was a Pokemon fan (and I still am, but not as much as I was back then) and I think the series is good, but really needs to end. The basic plot: Ash, a young boy of Pallet Town, goes on the ultimate adventure to train and fight against other Pokemon trainers to become a Pokemon master. In each season of the show, he meets new friends and rivals, travels to new areas of their world to see new and rare creatures, and foil the evil plots of Team Rocket. Yeah, yeah. It's redundant and obvious, but I can see some good in the show. Because it's edited for young children and the different monsters (and the number of them continues to grow) attracts their attention, while also teaching them lessons about friendship and courage. I enjoy the series, but it would be nice to see an original Japanese release in the future (which I doubt it would ever happen). So, three stars here. Gotta catch 'em all (the episodes, that is)! |

posted: Feb 12, 2006 Rated it: | KF Animation Editor | My biggest fear is that this show will go on and on without end simply because the marketability of these made up creatures is still so high. This show has no story and no plot. Ash will never be a Pokemon master! They just keep inventing new monsters to use as an excuse to make new episodes. I've long ago lost track of them all. This show is good enough for kids, but there's got to be a point where you've got to say "enough is enough". This show is nothing but tossing magical attacks back and forth, jerky animation, and static scenes that get panned across to simulate "motion". And then of course there are always the contants. Pikachu will always get captured and then rescued. And Team Rocket will always have that annoyinng schtick and always get "blasted off again". It's not funny anymore. A hundred episodes is good enough for a cartoon. Not eight hundred. |
