One of the reason that this is getting such a low mark isn’t because it is in any way really bad (though it is), it just that every few minutes the action stops to show you some random pokemon that have nothing to do with the rest of the short, completely breaking up what lack of narrative there is. This is just rather annoying and without it this short would maybe be seeing a slightly more decent marking, with it, its lucky I giving it this.

You have to be a big fan of pokemon – the creatures as well as the series/games/etc - to get anything out of this short. All it really is, is one group of pokemon (Ash's - from the series) interacting with another group, mostly via racing. Without much in the way of a narrative is only going to appeal to a certain group of people.

Thankfully the later shorts, like the films, do get better. True they never achieve anything near excellence, or even mere greatness; but I don’t feel like watching some of the later ones are as much a waste of time as some other shorts I’ve seen, even from companies with far bigger reputations to obtain.
