Out of the three Lupin III TV series, this one was that was most important. The nature of this series basically set the tone for Lupin III over the next 25+ years. The stories would take place over all parts of the world to give the show a bit more variety.Even though the show was bit more light hearted, the serious tone was still somewhat present.

The main characters,Lupin,Jigen,Goemon and Fujiko were still as determined as ever to steal but they were less violent. Zenigata became a bit more comedic and a bit dumb in some episodes, but still determined to catch Lupin. Some Lupin fans accuse this series as being too cartoonish, I see it as an improvement over the first series. Monkey Punch's fast paced and wacky style was almost non-existent in the first TV series, but this secound one definetly has it in mind. I easily agree that making the characters and stories a bit more silly may tunr off some fans. However,it was an improvement over the previous show because it was more past faced just like the manga. The expansion of the setting also helped tremendously, with Lupin and the gang getting into all types of crazy situations. As a matter of fact, the better episodes had the Lupin gang not stealing at all.Covering all types of genres, there was nothing this seires was restricted to.

The only real fault of the show was the lack logic in some episodes.Zenigata whould appear almost out of nowhere, and there were side characters and situations that were simply horrible. I can go on and on about the bad stories in this show, but the good did outweigh them.

The animation was an improvement over the last TV series, especially the episodes animated by Studio Telecom. A big help came from the simplified character designs, which made the animating the characters alot easier.

The soundtrack was almost endless, mostly due to the two films (Mamo and cagliostro)that were released during the series run. Yuji Ohno's music in this show were used long after this show ended and are among the most exported msuic outside of Japan.

Out of all the series, this one was the greatest. The show solidified Lupin's placed anime history.
