Krypto the Superdog…done after just two seasons. I liked this show, but honestly, I think it would have had so much potential if it had been aimed at a more mature audience. It’s good as it is, but they kept it very simple. Perhaps too simple, given how unpopular it is. But if you can enjoy childrens’ shows, as I do, you can enjoy this cute, crisp and colorful little show about Superman’s dog and his pals. The best episodes are the ones that feature the Dog Star Patrol; other than those, some episodes are quite good and others leave much to be desired. Again, Krypto is a fabulous idea for a show with a cast of amazing characters; they just never took it to the next level, so most people find it overly corny or something. Me, I like it.

There was a period of my life (one week in fact) where I was taken ill with the flu, and had to resort to daytime television. There were many different genres that I could have chosen from, I decided on cartoons. Unfortunately, Krypto the Super Dog was on at the time.

There is nothing offensive, sickening, or even annoying about this show; Krypto is just incredibly weak in every area. Each episode contains in extremely shallow story, carried by equally shallow characters, with shallow animation to boot.

There is a certain element of predictability to this show. Every episode begins with some villain animal, generally Mechanikat (a robotic cat, if the name didn’t tip you off) trying conquer the earth or metropolis (Krypto’s hometown). Krypto, then tries to foil the villain's plan, with either Streaky, the whiny envious sidekick, the Dogstar patrol, (not where I got my username from) or Ace the bat hound (A character based off batman, Ace is the only tolerable character). Then the crisis point happens, and Krypto finds himself weakened by (gasp) Kryptonite. But thanks the magical power of friendship, humility, kindness, e.t.c, Krypto is revived and saves the day. Then whatever moral was found (i.e jealousy does no one good) is reiterated and the show ends. Trust me, this happens every single episode.

This show has nothing to offer. There is no real humor, no insights on society, and nothing deeper then age-old morals.

Oh dear, I didn’t have high hopes for this show when I first heard of it, watching the opening titles pretty much killed off any that I still obtained. The song is a repetitive, tiresome piece of garbage; unfortunately the show that follows is cut from the same cloth.

Based on a character and a comic series that was a niche in itself, one has to wonder why anyone one would wish to bother with this. Warner’s were possibly hoping that they would grab an audience that would then be subject to buying plush and other merchandise. Yet it is not cute enough to appeal to the youngest demographic and the stories not strong enough to appeal to older kids; it occupies a problem in-between area that ultimately cannot survive one angle or another.

The animation, in both look and style is like much of the USA's productions at the moment, unfortunately this means that it is often uninspired and plain: if it didn’t have the dogs in it then it would look like many other series on air. Few if any of the characters have succinct personas and those that do (Bat-Hound) are basically photocopies of their relative human counterparts. Like Superman, Kryto is just too nice a character to really get any teeth story-wise. Streaky the supercat is one of the few character to have a percentage of personality, but it is one of cowardice and envy.

The biggest thing to me, is that Warner Bros. have so much potential that it seems such a shame and waste of talent when such a lowly, bottom of the barrel product like this comes out of their doors. It seems more like a product that should have come from a C-class Studio than the big WB. The whole thing also works as a undermining of the corporation, as well as the super animals humanoid counterparts, as well as toward itself.

In all, Krypto is a mutt that’s best put to sleep.
